Title: Sqweaky Brakes
Post by: Mikester on 26 April 2008, 11:17
I have done about 150miles on my new front discs and pads, and they sqweak like HELL when braking 30-0.

What can i do to stop this? I heard i should of put copper grease on the back of the pads? But surely the sqweak comes from the pad touching the disc not the back of the pads?

Any help would be great.

Hi
There is a slight movement of the pads in the area they are held in. Also did you replace the pad tensioners with the new.

i dont know what the pad tensioners are, so i no, i didnt replace them. And the pads are ferm in there place. Its only when braking softly they sqweak. When breaking hard they dont, and its only at low speed.

If you had these done at a garage, get it back to the fitters and get them to sort it out :nerd:

Sounds like you glazed the pads by not running them in properly. You need to make sure the first few hundred miles you only use light braking (difficult I know!). Get the pads back out and give them a quick rub with some wet and dry to rough them up a little and start again. Copper grease should only be used on the back of the pads on the ears which locate the pads in the caliper

Really.....! What happens if i just carry on with them as they are? Will they sqweak forever? As they stop fine!

they'll just carry on squealing away, you will have a shiny glazed surface on the pad faces

So i need to remove them and sand them up a bit, this is so not what i wanted to hear... but thanks! At least now i know. Pretty hard to go easy on them though. Surely wont they just go back this way once ive sanded them again.....

Not unless you brake hard constantly :P

About that..... I think i wil leave them another 100miles and see what happens with the sqweeks, new discs too. They stop fine, just make a horrible sqweak :/ Not to keen on gettin them off and sanding them up, because they will just ware back to a "glaze" and sqweak again surely?

Mikester, I got brand new brembo max disks with ebc greenstuff pads (think its the same set up as you)

They squeeled like a pig for ages but then they stopped completely.  It is embarrasing especially when in town etc but believe me, it stops!

quick rub with wet and dry will stop it sooner then
