Title: 15 - 17" alloys without slamming the car!
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 25 April 2008, 21:07
I'm looking into buying alloys from eBay, could someone post pics of a MK3 Golf with 15" and 17" alloys that hasn't been lowered? So I've got an idea of what mine will look like.

17s fill the arches nicely with a 40 mm drop. :)

Post by: boneybradley on 25 April 2008, 22:09
other problem is its an 1.8gl which are 20mm higher than the gti!

Post by: Shady Pioneer on 25 April 2008, 22:52
You're right...damn forgot about it's higher than the GTIs.

Bloody hell, lol! I'm gonna need to get it dropped, is there a way I can get it down to GTI height, then stick it on 15s, without using coilovers?

I'm on a budget yes, just want the car to be lower than what it is, don't want it really low like other, standard GTI height would be great or maybe a tad more...recommend me some springys!!! lol!

It's becoming more and more clear that I should go for this GTI shocks and springs I'm being offered, with 15s on low pro tyres, and I'm done!

wots the point in putting gti shocks and springs on it,

it costs alot to get ur suspension changed so u mite aswell lower it while u are there with some descent suspension,
otherwise ur paying all that money to have crappy mk3 gti suspension wich everyone hates and changes for coilovers

i thought she meant after market suspension from a mk2 onto her mk3, if the suspension is standard mk2 stuff then id partly agree.
I say partly because her mate probably doesnt want much for it if its standard gear(or shouldnt do), so it would be cheaper than spending 200-300 quid on a full kit and getting that fitted aswell.

What do people think of these?

http://www.topgear.co.uk/acatalog/4x_15_Inch_TSW_Legend_Silver_Alloy_Wheels_With_195_50_15_Tyres.php

I think they are cool as hell!

Are the tyres that come with it low profile though?
Title: Re: 15 - 17" alloys without slamming the car!
Post by: Wayne on 28 April 2008, 10:19
Very nice but you would need 205/50/15's and yes they are low profile
Title: Re: 15 - 17" alloys without slamming the car!
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 28 April 2008, 10:23
Why would I need 205s?
Title: Re: 15 - 17" alloys without slamming the car!
Post by: nelds on 28 April 2008, 10:26
are you going for the stretch look with 195's....???......................they'll only be budget tyres but as long as the speed rating is correct you should be ok.
Title: Re: 15 - 17" alloys without slamming the car!
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 28 April 2008, 10:27
I have no idea what the stretch look means lol! And also I'd upgrade to the Toyo tyres because it's only an extra £25, Toyos would be better than budget wouldn't they?

Is that what I'd get if I have the tyres on that package? If so that looks good, makes it look bigger from the back lol! And what about them Toyo tyres?

Why would I need 205s?

To keep the gearing correct.

I like these, and can get VW centre caps to make them like genuine VW BBSs (lookalikes anyway). Will they fit?

Those 16" alloys (BBS Polo ones) that I didn't win, I've been offered to buy them from the seller because the winning bidder didn't pay up, and he knew I was interested so got back to me.

I'm trying to see if he'd let me do a monthly type payment which seems a possibility, if he agrees, should I go for it?

Seems like this guy I'm in negotiation with is willing for me to pay monthly which I thinks really cool of him to accept, just tryna sort out a price for them now.

I've offered £400 as all wheels have good tread and condition is pretty damn good bar one which could do with a refurb, but I ain't too bothered about that lol!
