Title: Does it work in theory?

I want to swap two wires in my headlights. Instead of it being, dip going to the bottom of the headlamp, and high going to the spot and top of headlamp, it will be dip giong to the spot, and high going to both the headlamp connectors. Can anyone see why it might not work? I can't see any problems with it?? Will post a diagram if no one understands what i mean!!

Surely someone must know if this will work? Will the dim dip pose any problems?

Can't understand why you are looking to do this. Basically the H4 bulb is designed with 2 filaments, one dipped and one full beam. The dipped beam is shielded to send the light in the right direction and mean that you don't dazzle oncoming traffic. If you do the mod you propose you will end up dazzling oncoming traffic with the spots :(

Are you sure?? Even though the spots point down where the dipped beam would be?

Do you want the spot lamps on when you are on dip and when on high, both terminals on the headlamp bulb fed?.

Yeah, thats what i want to do. But not sure cos of a) dim dip, b) overheating H4 bulbs?? c) H3 bulbs not being bright enough?

keeping the spots on is a sure fire way of annoying other road users. part of me says - why would you care - you'll never meet them, but the other part of me says that we have to live together and annoying fellow road users wont get you far.

the one thing golfs were very good at was illumination, especially the spots on GTIs.

i remember a chat eons ago with a Astra GTE 16v driver. This was a car that would edge out the 16v Mk2 in speed.

but it had two major flaws:

1) corners. it had the ability of a ferry. bit like a mk3 golf.

2) the night. it had zero illumination.

Qute simply, the Golf mk2 was the Blackpool illuminations of the road.

So the story goes, if you were chasing an Astra GTE 16v late at night down a windy road, you had no problems. You could see the corner and get round it. Which was nice.

eh??? but i have had a few mk2's with spots and only one of them has  had good lights! i think they were a bit crud cos of being round, but i dont know

if you have the spots on the police will be after you as soon as they see you! and ie you will get a ?20 fine....

if you need brighter lights buy some philips vision plus bulbs which give 20 meters extra light! as there 50% brighter.........and are legal and wont get you pulled or fined! as long as you have the correct wattage for a mk 2 golf which is normal H4 should be 60/55w
and the H3 are 60w!
