the brown cap one is bosch and the other with the black cover looks like the alternate lucas type..... simple answer...different dizy's
-
caps are but dizzys the same. im lookin at no1 plug and hall sender surly they should be positioned the same
-
mine is a bosch but its not red / brown, mine is black, deffo bosch as it says so on the top!
-
if the caps are different the dizzy's are very different! if i remember correct the sparking order is the same but no1 is in a different position? ensure your cap fits correctly as they both will fit but there are lugs on them and the cap should be mounted strongly and not move in any way! i have come accross the wrong caps being used and these cause loads of trouble...
and here's mine (missing the black splash cover!! that vw fitted to complicate things!!) and you can see my hall sender on the right of the pic with the plug on...

just sorted it out . the dizzy ad to be repositioned, so now they both pointing the same way. and it runing much better.dam the previous owners should be shot.if it was a ford it would of been scraped, but you cant do that to a vw can you. and i removed the black cover as it just confuses the issue. thank ya all for you help
