noticed today that the hose at the top of the picture has split, what is this hose for? and is it easily replaced?

cant realy make it out. but it looks like brake sevo pipe. or where does it go to.
is it a gti

.only know 8v's off hand.sorry never owned 16v. but its still looks like a brake servo pipe to me thou can you see where it goes to then?

Its the pipe giving vacuum from the manifold to the brake servo. Coonection at manifold end is a rubber elbow with hose clips which is easily accesible, cant see the connection at the brake servo end, could be difficult to get to.

does it affect the brakes? :shocked:

if its splits all the way through you will lose servo assistance on the brakes which will mean you will have to push the pedal a lot harder to get them to work.
Looks like its a push fit into the servo, so as long as you can get your hand in there it should be easy to replace.

anyone had to swap this pipe? how easy/hard was it
