Title: serivicing materials

Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice.
Just bought a 1.8 20v gti(non turbo) ,Whats the best oil,filters,and spark plugs to use? Would i be better with a standard air filter,a replacement panel filter or a cone filter?(i have a stainless meshed cone filter i'm thinking of using) ,as for oil I was using millers semi synthetic in my peugeot 406 coupe and thought it was great ,just wondered what everyone else uses,
