Title: Juddering
Post by: mash on 20 April 2004, 16:53
When in 1st or 2nd gear giving it only a little gas the car seems to judder as if its going to eventually stall. By giving it more gas it seems to be fine.   Its a 1.8T.

Any ideas?

Has this only just started happening?  Is this car new to you?

The Mk4 is a heavy beast and needs a bit more juice than many other cars I've driven to get off the mark. (Sorry if you've had this car for ages-  I don't mean to sound patronising!  ;))

This has just started happening a week ago,  the car is on an X plate, 2001.

Just recently when coming to a standstill in neutral the car would cut out intermittently.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his MK4.

It could be the air flow meter - this solved the problem but was expensive (about ?200)

Before you get an air flow meter try replacing the ht leads and spark plugs.

Tell us how you get on

might be worth checking plugs, may be hesitating a bit.

Air flow meter is a good un, I have'nt taken a golf air flow meter apart yet, but if like all the others i have seen from other cars take the gauze out as it restricts airflow.

Also check the idle speed control valve if there is one on 1.8t, these are common problems for the symptoms you describe,

Or sale it and buy an R32, any excuse!!
