Title: White Worm on your Alloys
Post by: MikeGTI on 23 April 2008, 16:48
Hi guys, read a lot on here about people discovering white worm on their alloys, but no pics of what it actually looks like.

Have discovered a couple of marks on one of my alloys and as they appear to sit underneath the surface think I may now be suffering it.

Knowing what dealers are like though I'd like to be confident of what I have before approaching them about the issue.

So I'm asking if anyone has anyone could post pics of their wheels with whiteworm for me to compare?

Many Thanks

I think it's pretty easy to see why that wheel has gone the way it has. Brail parking

My GTI is coming upto 3 years old so will soon be out of warranty.  Can i take mine back to ANY dealer and get a warranty replacement?

Well the marks look nothing like that. Though now that they've been meticulously cleaned I can feel that they're couple of very tiny scratches.

Not surprisingly the damage coincides with a recent trip to the dealers

Though I've been to slow in reporting it for it to stand up to argument.

Hi... My local dealer (VW Priory Pk) JCT600 delt with mine very swiftly. One of them only had the tiniest of dots on it. But it was enough to claim a change.
Ended up with four new ones, all put away for when I sell or trade the car next....

Mine is out of warranty soon so popped it in and they ordered 2 replacements. While on order I spotted a mark on a 3rd wheel. Rang them and they said no problem and ordered a 3rd.  Car went in for service yesterday and they couldn't swap the wheels because they were all damaged when they got them out the box. However, they found a spot on the edge of the 4th so have ordered another 4.  I'm very pleased, almost 3 years old with brand new monza's. £1560 is the retail value!!!!!!

This will be another change that VW will do to the MKVI - No more laquered alloys. Saying that you would have thought that they had learned their lesson from the MKIV Anni alloys.

And the BBS on the previous polo gti, the 16" wheels on the current sport golfs and the new r32 wheels are worse apparently. Every car in the vw range have a diamond cut option. Worm only happens in the uk apparently
