Is the R888 rubber any good. I've got a spare set of alloys and was thinking about coating them with the Toyo's for trackdays etc. Anyone used them and what did you think?
Is there anything better out there that is still road leagal?

these tires are brillant for trackdays but be warned if it rains DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE ANY FASTER THAN 40MPH!

I have on an Elise and I used them through snow sleet and rain. They do not like standing water that much but are soft so grippy in the wet and most importantly have a progressive break-away
-
Arnt these the tyres that are used in the Time Attack series?? From my dealings, i would echo jamieall's comments.

You need to be very very careful running 888's on a road car. I have some experience from previously owning a westfield.
Things you need to look out for/be aware of: -
Wheel bearings/suspension bushes will take much more punishment due to massive amounts of grip
Oil surge/starvation problems, not sure what the sumps are like to the GTI/ED30 with regards to baffles/gates but under heavy braking/cornering you may suffer from problems with oil flow.
Other than that they will wear pretty quickly but will offer awesome grip, in the dry

As above.

Just to add to my comments
The brakes will get even more of a work out I would recommend some race fluid and harder pads eg Pagids

They are indeed!

From what i saw at Donnington Park a couple of weeks back the Time Attack boys were doing a fair bit more than 40mph in the pissing rain/snow/sleet and didn't seem to be having any problems

Shouldn't be a problem as I'm upgrading the brakes.

Good
When you have them up and running keep an eye on tyre pressure and wear on the tyre (wearing in the middle = over inflated etc). Make sure you run them at the right pressure for the conditions otherwise you will loose performance and life of the tyre

Dont know much about the rubber but if they are as good as everyone is saying then I think this could be the answer to beating the 5.5sec 0-60

why would you be so interested in beating 5.5 sec 0-60mph? would it not be better to get a realistice performance figure like 30-130mph, i beleive there is some new events held for these realistic performance. fwd will never be as good as 4wd or rwd for off the line traction no matter what you do to it.

that maybe true but with a sub 6sec 0-60 before a remap and other few bits. Surely the first thing you would wan to do is break the 5.5sec!

in that case just make 4.8 secs!

Lets keep it realistic.. you are gonna struggle to beat 5sec in a FWD :nerd:

If you can do it in 5.66 with no mods... i would expect 5.5 to be quite achieveable with an extra 50bhp and a carbon fibre bonnet and a few other mods... i am sure Hurdy will fill you in when he catches up with this thread.

Yup, R32UK is right. I made 5.66 secs 0-60mph last year at Inters completely standard. 5.5 should be easy with mods.
I guess we'll have to see this year at Inters as I know that there will be at least 5 modded ED30's there and Awesomes GTI too. a 5 second 0-60 is probably a bit over-ambitious even for the Awesome car.
The only way to get the power down better is to have sticky track rubber and even then you'd have to still feed in the power.
