Just a thought, we always get people asking how to upload pics etc etc. I was thinkin maybe when a new user joins, an automated pm could be sent with all the relevant links to help them get started.

But Newbies cant see or send PM's until 10 posts!
-
oh im sure i had a pm sayin welcome to the forum..hmm maybe i was thinking of some other forum, oh wel
-

they can read them can't they but just can't send any? :undecided:
-
so a good idea then?
-
I had a similar idea a while ago where newbies where directed to the Guidlines. That was too much trouble apparently.
-
Ah well, i'll come up with another idea in a few months :)
-
as Admin havent commented you could assume its a non starter!
But yea keep thinking as anything to stop the picture/PM posts is worth persuing.
-
I definately agree something should be there in place so that it avoids all the "how do I post pics up?" threads etc

Sorry Len, clearly my service level agreeement to respond to all things you request has been slipping.
There already is something in place, called the forum guidelines that has the answer to those pm/pictures questions. There is also a search system that would find the same questions asked over and over again. I can add a line into the sign up agreement but it will make precisely no difference.

Hi jv glad you were able to find time in your busy schedule!
What russ-vdub is proposing is a little different though and might help!
Even if it cut down on say 50% of those posts surely thats worth a trial or something?
-
Sure, how do you suggest I implement it?
-
Absolutely no idea! As topher said I'm totally clueless and useless in such matters!
But I dare say some bright spark, even yourself could come up with some code or something to patch in or whatever!

You have probably made twice as many posts in here about a load of balls than all of the above picture/PM posts put together!
-
And the point of your post is?

Well why do you want to cut them down by 50%?
-
personally I think it would be great if there were none of these such posts!
But any reduction would be welcome. I was just being realistic, knowing as jv said most people dont read these things!
-
I wasn't thinkin about putting things in the forum guildlines, cos we all know, nobody reads them. I aint much of a wizz with html/java etc but i was kinda thinking of something like this.

Admin
Something like that in a pm maybe?
-
still gives us the 'no pm's before 10 posts' problem, could be added to a welcome email on registration.. whether they read it is another matter
-
can it not be swindled so they can receive that first one and lock the rest of the pm features, or is that proper complicated?
-
Think what they are saying is you cant make people read things! Plus if they do read it then will it actually sink in!
I say lets be proactive and give it a try!
-
Cheers for your support with this Len :)
-
No worries Russ, but they dont take much notice of me anyway!
-
yeh seems that way, been 4 days without a post about it :(
-
Patience! We've found a way, needs some testing.. but jv is on holiday so it'll take a while.
-
I'm
But good on ya's for doing something!
-
Quality :) Thats proper cool, i've thought of an idea with some actual use .. Hope it works out and aint too much trouble ;)

-
in what way is that  yes i got back yesterday, is this really that important?
-
Apparently so!
-
I, for one, am incredibly shocked that this wasn't your first priority when you got home.
-
I'm more shocked that you dared to take time away from the forum.
-
in what way is that  yes i got back yesterday, is this really that important?
hey you know me! is used coz you said you dont like me using it! Or rather over using it!
And your mate topher said you would get right on this as soon as you got back off hols!
-
Ah, now I get the logic. Hey Len, those rear lights look mental, really suit the car, where can I get some?
-
hey John NO! My car is individual, dont want others copying me!
Will clash with that lush new red interior of yours!
