I have just discovered that my Power Steering rack is dodgy and am wondering what the "handiest!!" way of removing it is? It was a recon unit and I fitted it with the engine out of the car.
If I remove the four bolts bolting the rack to the subrame is there enough room to take it out sideways at the wheel arch?? ;D or will I have to support the engine, undo the two engine mounts and drop the whole subframe?. >:(
It's hard enough lining up the subframe bolts when refitting without having to line up the two engine mounts as well!!! Anyone done this?? Any advice appreciated! :)

Erm.....Anyone? ???

You need to drop the subframe so you can disconnect the rack from the column.

I believe the best way to do this is to take it out the passenger side. So unbolt the gearbox mount and loosen the rear engine mount. Then drop the subframe which should create enough room to bring the rack out sideways.

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys ;) I took the rack off last night.
I loosened the two front subrame bolts and removed the gearbox mount bolt and the two rear subframe bolts, then lowered the jack supporting the s/frame which gave enough tilt to tack the rack out towards the back of the car.....just in case anyone ever has to do this ;)

Where did you get you replacement rack from and how much?

Got it from GSF for 180 Euro's plus surcharge of 80, as I gave them my old manual rack as well.
