I love these, me and a friend nearly bought one for a project not long back, just found this one on ebay. If I could afford to i would. What you guys think?

square back is awesome. bug looks hard but i dont think the 1641cc engine justifies that spoiler!

a bloke who lives in our flats has got a variant.
it only comes out in the summer tho' , pale blue , i posted pics of it last year. minter. :cool:

thats had a huge amount of work. not my bag though.
i am currently building a rat rod based on a wizard shell. its going to be nasty. gonna run it without front wings, have lots of unsmoothed welds, welded doors, matt brown paint and no windscreen.

Yeah i am going to do my mk2 gti a matt colour some day, looking at dark matt green atm but that grey is tempting :smiley:

no real progress on my bug as yet. i am busy stripping the donor car so i can use its chassis. its going to be a long burning project as i am starting to look for a house

they all look awesome :cool: were the variants not called "Trabant" also? They were used during the war to transport provisions around Germany.

the trabant looks a bit like a variant but smaller. the variants were made from the early 60's (type 3 - the cool ones) up to the late 70's.
in ww2 they used kubelwagens (bucket car) which was basically a beetle chassis with a jeep type body
