Engine or no engine, that is not worth £800. The owner should sell the engine seperatly and scrap the rest.

how can you even see where they are mounted? and if its to the rear seat belts then thats fine, mot standard to pass.

I'm talking about the angle. Think about what would happen in a crash, all that forward momentum gets converted to downward, spine crushing pressure.

tbf id much prefer to crash wearin a harness over a single strap seat belt anyday, regardless of where its mounted. ive been in a head on collision at nearly 110mph combined speed with a normal belt, and it was the worst pain in my collar bone i could ever want to imagine

Well I'm sorry but your gut feeling is wrong. Crash at anything approaching speed in that car and you'd be better not strapping in to those harnesses. I wouldn't argue, but this is literally a life or death issue - I don't mean any offence.

yeh are they not meant to be basically straight back onto a roll cage etc not bolted to the floor behind the seats :rolleyes:

Hmmm i had a look at this myself, thing is why would you go that far and stop? If the engine is good and genuine youve got between £300-£500 depending on your local scrap merchant, The car itself is probably worth £100 at a push. Id say £800 is bit tempting but at the same time could be a real bad decision. i have no doubts it will sell, Good luck if its yourself :wink:

They're probably 'show harnesses' - like those Russ-vdub has, which are fastened to a rear strut brace.
No one said MOT = safe. It's just ticks in boxes at the end of the day.

His old car was mint, i reckon this one would have looked awesome if he finished it ... this is his old motor :drool:

I've often thought about taking on a project like this but I just couldnt stomach it if it turned into a money pit and ruined the whole experiance :undecided:

i know the old owner the only reason its ended up like this is cos he got banned and saw it as an excuse to do the engine transplant but ran out of enthuisam and now his ban is coming to an end he's going to buy a tt.
could be an awesome car its had some serious wedge spent on it.

I have to agree. If this car needed an SVA test, those harnesses would fail as there is a real risk of spine compression in the event of an accident. Current kit car legislation will not allow harnesses mounted that way.

From what you can see on the photos £800 is a good starting bid. I paid that for my car last year. I would hate to think how much I,ve spent since then to get it to a semi decent state. And it still burns as much oil as petrol. Lets face it if you could take it on as aproject and get the turbo motor running. Relocating the seat belt mounts would be a piece of cake. Would love that turbo!

I think if youve got the time and could haggle or get something else with it it would be a good project car,
obviously someone has gone to the trouble of putting the 1.8t in, so would be a shame to rip it out :laugh: haha

Yeah, bolting engines up is a piece of cake, the wiring is the tough bit and I think it's the bit that's not been done on this one and that's why it's worth the price of some second hand parts, not the value of a running, MOTed motor.

if the 2" harnesses weren't safe they also wouldn't be fia approved.

There's a huge difference between approved harnesses and approved mounting. Also those harnesses aren't even approaching the minimum 45 degrees on that pic. The issue isn't FIA regulations, the issue is physics and what a serious amount of downward pressure on your back can do.
