as said in title...i am thinking of removing the plastic arches and fitting cl side strips (or similar?)..... any body have pictures of a pearl black mk3 with these removed (on standard wheels) and what does every body think about doing this... My neighbour has a vr6 without and that looks
oh and please dont say look in the mk3 picture section as I seem to spend loads of time in their on auto pilot deleting old threads!!
-
de-arch it, and sell me the arches, i have the money waiting in my paypal account to send imediatly,
thanks
-
yeah i would say deffo de-arch. my bro-in-law on his mk3 16v had it de-arched, looks soooo much better imo. freshens the car up as well!!!!!
-
take the arches off and then see the state of things underneath and then decide IF its even a possibility...
I dare not take mine off......
-
im old skool. not a fan of the de arched look, i have however had mine off to look behind and mine arches are all good :)

yeah my arches are good... I am just fed up of cleaning them to keep them black unless theres a miracle product out there? I've tried everything exept the heat gun idea and lets just say i can see fire with that!!
-
The first one I removed had a rust bubble :-(
At least it wasn't the last one, that would have been really annoying
-
just get them sprayed black
prob gonna do that to mine

  not a fan of that at all... looks very mid 90's MK2 to me....
if the arches come off then I would get smooth bumpers and side trim else it makes your cal look like a cl......
-
I think it looks nice but I'm stayin with the OEM look till I can get the arches pulled out to accomodate some nice rims!
-
Would look nice on a black car more, wouldnt stand out as much that they are missing.
I think on a coloured car they look as if they are missing / non gti sleeper look.
-
Do it! I think it's something too many people have on their Golfs, I don't personally like the look of the Golf with the black trim all the way around, looks better with everything colour coded
Like mine.

take em off and live without them for a while and see if you like it... I think arches look great if they are clean and black... otherwise they are a pain in the arse
thinking of de-arching myself and in the same [mk3] boat :undecided:
-
I think I'm gonna see how she looks when the coilovers are on.... if it still look's good i will keep them and if not ditch them
the main reason I'm thinking about this is my new skinny 195 tryes look really narrow (compared to the 205's which rubbed!!) and with the arches they make them even more narrow..
205 arch grabbers

and new 195's

You can see in the bottom pictures the tryes sit further in the arch and look well slim!
-
as you said... slam it first and then see!
the 195's are nice! i went for the 215's on my BBS RX II's and they have taken a bit of getting used to... a little bit chubby but fill the arches well
-
i have trim in my garage waiting to do mine, just not had time yet. I'm going to spray mine black so i too dont have to keep treating them, not sure whether to colour code bumper tops or leave black.....???? any suggestions, also what primer would i need, just standard plastic stuff..??.
-
ONLY De-arch if you fit the fully colour coded bumpers... The GTI ones with the black strip need the arches to keep up with the flow of black trim.. so to speak. Else it looks odd and unfinnished. if you have the smooth colour coded bumpers.. do it And you can join me in having a GTI that looks like a 1.4 and every other golf on the road
-
Mr Bradley if you are lowering then there is only one look and that is to de-arch!!
You know it to be true!
If you can find pics of Carl's old car as that was a minter! That will show you how good the de-arch look really is!
I mean you can look at mine but tbh the gold wheels tends to take the eye away from the arches.
-
Quick question, how are they held on and if you remove them do you need to change the side trims.
-
i have thort of doing this many a time whit the right wheel off-set and drop the gti will look so much better if you keep the arches
but then the dearch can look spot on

i would say you have no rust try it for a week or more

Arches Baby!

I like the arches because I like the contrast but seeing as though your car is black anyway, I say de-arch

Quick question, how are they held on and if you remove them do you need to change the side trims.
The arches are held on by small soft metal rivets underneath. You have to drill them out. The front ones also have a fixing to the side strips, so if you only take the arches off it will look weird!
