hi,
ive seen some fk shocks and springs for sale in the classifieds section,
they are advertised as for a mk2 gti,
i need to know if they will fit my 1993 mk3 golf?
thanks
-
yes mk2 suspension is exactly the same as mk3....
although the springs would be model specific probably ie the right spring for the weight of the car etc....
-
mk3's are a couples of tonnes heavier tho  so wouldnt the springs sit really looooooow?
-
Mk3 weights just over 1000kgs.
-
so they wouldnt fit
-
indeed they would.

indeed they would.
sorry are u saying indeed they would fit or indeed they would not fit?
should i buy them or not?
-
Buy them.
-
early mk3 suspension is the same as mk2..... it will fit fine but the front will be lower than when fitted to mk2 due to the car weight (and with the way mk3's sit I wouldn't worry)
-
so whats different to the late? I bought those group buy coilovers from the mk2 forum. lol

when fitting coilover its no problem....its the front spring plates that differ as later models uses smaller sized front springs.
-
phew, i got worried, i remember someone saynig about the different sized plates though.
panic over, lol.
-
mike mines got the same front suspension as yours and they will fit fine as you ditch the spring plates with the coilies...... my last 1994 golf which had a brand new lowering kit and it wouldnt fit this one

does this mean that mk1 will fit aswell or r they completely diffrent. thanks

Begs the question then if Mk 2 & Mk 3 suspension is the same, why the difference in handling?

several hundred kilo's and softer o.e spring rates spring to mind (ok sad pun not intended).... remember the 90's were yuppie heaven and they didnt want to get bad backs!
-
But how can they be different spring rates if they fit both?
-
quality kits have different listings for both and different spring rates..
it's the cheaper kits that have 1 kit fits all. thats why my mk2 coilovers should be ok as the rates are designed for a light mk2.
