Hi Guys
new to the scene but i like what i see. I am busy looking to buy a golf gti mk 4 in the next month or so. I am trying find one that is a 1.8 20V non turbo variety, however i know that they stopped making these around 1999? what price should i be paying for one of these. I have about ?7K - ?8K to spend, would that get me a decent one?
cheers guys

hi andy,
look out for richy or kniterider on here, that is the car they have. i think rich spent 7k on a very nice ink blue one, so you are in the right kind of price area to get a good one.
good luck with your search :)

My car is a 1.8 20v non turbo 1999 as pic show below .. i bought the car ?8700 with 14000 thou mile from VW Dealer. Very happy with it. ;D

Can have mine for ?7200.
Its Jan 1999 1.8 non turbo. original except for walnut veneer trim from 2002 Bora , VW 6 CD, and recently fitted by vw, boot spolier (?280).
full VWSH and 30K on the clock?????????

Jv's right... Got mine for ?7500 from VW in December '03 with 43000 on the clock. Haggled em down from ?8000, and they chucked in a bonnet respray for good measure (had a few stone chips).
Rickardo's offer sounds a good deal!
Hope this helps.

Rickardo and D Owen thanks for your replys, i dont want to start exchanging numbers just yet mainly because the funds are not all there yet (next month or so). Yeah, just looked on my anorak site, Autotrader,
You are looking at ?5500 to ?6500 to get an average miles (40 -50). If you can get a 3 dr, these seem to be rarer than the 5dr. But without winding anyone up look nicer in my opinion (no offence).
Stay clear of the 2.0litre if you can, just not worth it, woefully underpowered.
I di notice you can get some 2000 registered 1.8 20v's. These may have been late registered, but may have better equipment as end of lines. I dunno. But newer would be better as will be better come resale, geeky thing but people will prefer to buy a 2000 over a 1999
-
Doubt you'll get a good one for that price with under ?50K on the clock.
Best "value" one I saw was ?6995 for a nice ?70K example. I wanted a really low-miler as I'm planning to keep it for ages.
-
Definately, can, Theres one down the road from me in a garage with 48000 miles, s plate ?5499, cheap as chips
-
where abouts are you from antgti? that does seem cheap. Ive done a bit research and they seem to fall between 7K - 8K for an average miles one.
cheers

that is mighty cheap!!! What's wrong with it?
-
right, do this search on Autotrader, my postcode is ME10 3BD national area, also search 1.8 and pt in GTI as extra, there are 5 on there for ?5500, there is even a turbo on there for 5795.
-
I believe you! I just didn't see any that cheap when I was looking!
-
I had an argument tonight with someone who just paid ?8200 for an 02 1.4 Golf, they reckon it was a bargain, i think they were mugged,
On top of this he reckons the 1.4 is quite nippy, i say no more!
-
I suppose I did buy mine from VW, which probably added about a grand on, but it was the only low-miler I could see at the time.
over ?8K for a 1.4 - that's daylight robbery!!! :o
