Hey everyone, I've got a slight problem. When I connect the battery to my '86 GTi 16v the ignition lights come on even without the key in, it starts up alright when you turn the key but the other problem is i wont switch off - I can turn the key to 'OFF' and take the key out but the engine will still be running
I've got an idea it might be a bad earth but I'm not sure which one if any, it could be...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Andy

Did this happen all of a sudden? Or did you do some work and then the problem occurred?
Mk2 ignition switches are common to fail and have different symptoms to show that its faulty, for your problem to happen you either have some bad wires to the ignition switch (bare and touching!) or the ignition switch itself. Cost £10, but requires some tools to do it.
I wouldn't change it just yet as i'm sure someone has an idea of this?... I hope!
