Title: Red Devil has arrived!
Post by: Phil mcavity on 18 April 2008, 20:15
Well cant believe i finally have got my hands on an Edition30 DSG at long last, with the spec i was after. Dvd Sat nav, highline computer, multifunction wheel with paddles, ipod and centre armrest, Rear parking sensors and unbelievably nearly a couple of grand back in my hand!. My local dealer is buying back my Grey GTi for £20000, and have bought the Edition 30 with exact same specification, for an amazing £18500 for a car thats 1 month older then the grey one. Just thrown a bucket at it and valeted the inside and its looks fabulous!.
Here are a few snaps taken this evening. Hope you like them. And a big Thankyou to Claire who sold me her. Hope your as happy with your new evo 9 as i am

I will do some better shoots nxt week as the weather improves, cant believe the ammount of onlookers when driving it compared with the Grey one. (noting against Steel grey but cant believe how well just a quick going over with Auto Glym wet wax, made the car look more shiny then it did when i recently life shined the Metalic Grey GTi.

wire wool, if that doesnt work some 2500/3000 sand paper. Then megs metal polish or autosol and sh!t loads of elbow grease

Do you still think the std GTi is a 'nicer looking car'?
Title: Re: Red Devil has arrived!
Post by: Phil mcavity on 18 April 2008, 21:29
Well, i have to say, it seems to pull better from 60mph onwards, although havent tried much at slower speeds yet, the wife took it for a drive this evening for her 1st taste of what all the hype and me crying over one for ages and she even said it wants to pull more then the Standard GTi. i love the sound of the turbo in the ed30, its sounds twice as loud then before, more whistle and gush when you lift off the throttle. But the main that i love between the 2 is just the way it looks. Its stunning. It could have the same 200hp engine in it and i really wouldnt care. It just looks more impressive when you look at the pair of them side by side.
One thing i have found though is the dam pescara's are harder to clean!, too many awkward bits!, monza's are easy peasy to clean.
I was offered the car with Black monza's instead of the standard ones, but just prefer the look of the pescara's.

Title: Re: Red Devil has arrived!
Post by: Phil mcavity on 18 April 2008, 21:39
In performance terms, their isnt much in it , yes the ed30 has more gutsy feel to it, being my old GTi was dsg aswell, is quick and no slouch in anycase. It really is the looks in my book. Its such a pretty looking car.Having seen all the colours in a few days for edition 30's at Santa pod etc, the two colours that really set the ED30 off are imo, Candy white and Tornado Red.

But...............................i did have to put in  :embarassed: :embarassed: 95 octane  :embarassed:    on the way home cus i couldnt find a petrol station that sold 99 octane.
shame on me i know, it will have its proper medicine soon at thats stuffs burnt out, and they maybe with Tesco 99 or shell's super juice, i can judge the edition 30's performance and launch control standing starts abit more clearer.

Why did you have the Milltek exhaust removed??

Reason was the other party wanted £300  for a 2nd well used exhaust that had been on 2 cars, price was abit too high for a 2nd hander tbh.I was sticking to a budget aswell.

Well. have to say about the performance, shes been put back on proper 99 octane fuel now, and i have to admit, but this edition 30 really does shift.I cant get over the oomph from 4000 rpm onwards it has!. it feels like theres twice the torque then the Standard GTi's has.
Ive not really pushed it hard till tonight, when i dropped it into sport, and got the biggest shock of my life of how well it goes!.Well there was only one thing for it, lifeshine and wax was given and a couple of photo's taken outside my new house and my boat !   hope you like them.

Its bad enough of fuel even before having it remapped. If the cost of fuel drops 30p a litre, then ill book it in!!. Driving it hard will get me 200 mile range to £50 of fuel!. twice a week i couldnt handle that. she's fast enough, blitz most things on the road except the odd M3 OR S3 but not much else will keep up with it.

Stealth Racing at Southam are meant to be pretty good they regularly hold RR days, if you can get enough people involved it brings down the price.

i expect i'll get a Milltek exhaust at most.

famous last words

.... That's EXACTLY how I started and look what happened to me!!

I had absolutely no plans or intentions to mod. Coming from a standard BMW straight-six with a great exhaust note, I immediately found the GTI's cabin over sound-proofed and that's purely why I changed exhaust. Then I learnt that the Milltek is a performance exhaust.

Which reminds me I need to get some decent pics of my new R32+Carbonfibre rear and update that thread.
