Title: Strange starting/running problem? HELP!

I am having trouble starting and running my 91 k-jet gti cabrio. When I turn the starter and let go of the key as normal, the car just dies, but if I ease the key back slowly and hold it just short of the sprung loaded position it runs fine except I have to hold the key. If I let go it dies again. I have recently - 6 months ago- replaced the ignition switch, as the last one was not making good contact, with one from gsf. It has been running fine for the last 6 months. Can anyone suggest the problem? Is it the switch again or the barrel this time or something more serious?

Sounds like the ign switch again, check it with a meter. Is it still under warranty?.
