Title: Which Retro Bluetooth?
Post by: GTIFIVE on 17 April 2008, 15:44
Hi,

Looking for a retro fit bluetooth phone kit for my GTI. I don't have a multi function steering wheel and I'm only really fussed with being able to safely pick up calls (not too bothered about seeing the phone book or dialling out while driving).

What neat solution do you recommend? Easy DIY or good East Dorset fitters?

Many thanks,

Jon

I bought this....

It clips over your sun visor to the extent youd hardly know it was there, turns itself off when you get out of the car as well. Excellent sound for both you and the other caller.

I have the Parrot CK3100. Works really well and the blue display compliments the GTI's lighting

Ill second that on the parrot ck3100, really good, had it year now, no probs.  it says a lot for the product that 18 months after launch they haven't upgraded it, just the colour of the plastic, as it does exactly what its meant to.

Might I suggest you take a look in the maintenance section? A user called "The Doc" who is a car electronics engineer of sorts I think did a write up there for what I think was a Parrot Bluetooth install.

Large images and very detailed write up. That may help. If you cant find the thread I can dig it up for you.

Looking at that thread it will be a easy DIY fit and very neat afterwards.

Or you could get the VW/Skoda/etc OEM bluetooth?
http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/bluetooth.html

I have it with my RNS510 (it allows touch screen dialling/phone book access) but it appears to work with all radios etc.
Drop Stu an email, tell him Lee/CocoPops sent ya and hopefully he can recommend a solution with the OEM kit.
It sits nicely under the seat (in proper brackets and locating lugs) and the mike actually has a prepared location in the headlining (near the front lights).

So no cutting or locating bits that shouldn't be there.

I can also vouch for the bluetooth kit from stu a fantastic piece of kit which works fantastic with my RNS510
