I know the hall sender is on the side of the dizzy....but the wiring also splits on these giving an error code
does it run ok??

Does it rev past 5000rpm?

Yes it seems to run ok ish - its been standing for 3 months so we expected it to run a little lumpy - It revs quite well past 5000 rpm - I will check the wireing on the side of the dizzy - hopefully its just a short thats giving this fault code - will let you know!

Just noticed  - The car has had a new dizzy fitted recently & I heard someware on this site that if the timing has been played about with and not set up correctly it will show a hall sender fault - but not sure :undecided:

If the dizzy is miss timed that can give a hall sender error as the readings are out of its limits... could be worth checking the timing

Me mate is coming over at the weekend with his timing gun -not sure if it will find too much wrong as the old girl runs sweet - we will have to wait and see!

first make sure the dizzy is timed correctly before checking the cam timing as i've seen some with correct cam timing but the dizzy out 180 degree... haynes can help with the dizzy

i should think the hall sender would fit. but i would try the coil fist as this is wat went on mine .it cut out at high ish revs for a few months and then it cut out and would not start a tall. i tryed a mates fist. hope this helps

Could be a broken wire as they are known to break that side of the block. As said, most likely to be the dizzy timing slightly out rather than cambelt out a tooth. The new dizzy could of been fitted because of that fault and not cleared when fixed, you should clear the faults first, run the car for a few days and scan again to see if it comes back

As pete says a broken wire could be quite possible. I had a similar thing a while back found out that the ECU pulse wire from the dizzy to ECU was making an intermittent connection replaced this problem solved.

pete - just re vagged the ecu after reseting on thursday & the Hall sender (g40) fault code is still there! but considering the car sat for 3 months it runs like new - after replacing a split vac hose - should have the timing checked on sunday - will post back findings!

I got the same problem mate who I just bought my car off said he had the cam belt off 6 times to make sure the timing is correct but still it won't rev over 5000 revs. But it still run really sweet need to get hold of a haynes manual then
