Ive got a 02 plate 130bhp GTI TDI and looking to get the ECU remapped.
Ive found this site and this is what they replied
"The 1.9 TDi engines we can take from 130bhp up to 185bhp and from 228lbft torque up to 310lbft torque giving a very impressive performance gain and all within safe design tolerance of the engine and drive train components. Reviews of some of our TDi remaps are located here if you should wish to browse: http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/testimonials.html (http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/testimonials.html)"
Is this possible and if so would it cause any engine/clutch problems etc
Cheers

Hi!
There is a lot of extra torque on offer from this celtic tuning remap, We have found around 1 in 5 remapped Mk4 TDIs will suffer from clutch slip in 4th gear under high load with a hign torque rmap.
If you do get slip this means the clutch would of not lasted too much longer on a standard map. If your worried about your clutch I would get a new one fitted before the remap to save any problems. Or you can ask the tuning companie to limit the amount 0f toqure the remap offers. 228lbft to 310lbft is a very big step up. If you ask for around 280lbft for a start than see if they will upgrade the remap once you have a new clutch fitted at a later date.
Apart from the clutch the engine and the rest of the drive train should fine with 185bhp and 310Lbft. make sure you service the engine well using good oil, allow the engine to get upto working temp before driving it hard and when turning the engine off allow 30 seconds for the turbo to cool and stop spooling.
I have passed a few jobs on to Celtic tuning because my customers where down in Devon I could not get to them and offer a good price due to time and distance, But Celitc took the work on and gave a very good price and service the customer where over the moon.

remapping the 130 alone wouldn't take you up to 185bhp. your typical gains on a remap are around 30bhp so don't get too excited as you may be disappointed. the wing mount intercooler doesn't help matters. my 150 was remapped and took it to 185bhp but i have since put a decat on and induction kit and is now nearly 200 bhp. the clutch is fine but it is a good idea to just make sure you are ready for if the clutch does slip. i have actually spoken to a couple of companies that have said they have taken them up to around 230bhp on a standard clutch. the other problem is the dual mass flywheel as they weigh a tonne. some companies may try and talk you into putting on a normal flywheel but if your using the car mostly on the road then don't bother as the dual mass flywheel is designed to dampen any engine vibration and if you take that away the it's gone eventually take out the gearbox.
