I have Mk2 16 valver, when i am driving slow or just rolling to a stop i can hear very faint whinning noise comming from one of the wheels. Can someone confirm if this will be a wheel bearing and how much should i expect to pay to fit it. GSF do the bearing for £5.95 + VAT which is not bad but hopefully it wont cost me too much to get it fitted.
Alternatively can it be something else causing the wheels to make this kind of noise.

If it was a wheel bearing, you would notice it more as a rumble at speed. You may have something as trivial as a brake pad touching the disc. This could cause a harmonic sing or a low volume squeal at low speeds.

Thanks, i was only asking as i am selling this car and buyer have noticed it and want me to get it fixed before buying. Thats why i do not want to spend too much on to get it fixed.

You could do it yourself if you had access to a press in about an hour. The same time I would expect from a garage. I need one for my G60, but I am going to replace both as I am still waiting for my compessor. Will take me a couple of hours.

The bearings are an interference fit and need to be pressed out. But first you will need to remove the circlips that maintain them in place. If it is a wheel bearing, I would send it to a garage if I were you. The bearing can be easily destroyed if not fitted correctly unless you know how to bodge them in and where to clout them. :lipsrsealed:

Best thing is to get a mechanic to look at it, he will be able to tell you what is wrong and correct it.
Anything brake/bearing related I take my car to the garage, anything else I'll give it a bash.

Thanks i will do that i think, it sounds too complicated for me to do.
