Well we know the Mark 6 Golf is almost ready, anyone know for sure when it launches, and when the GTI will be available? I'm looking to get a second car later on this year/early next year, and a Mk6 would ROCK! (Depending on how it looks/goes of course!)
By the way, anyone wanting a website relating to the Mark 6, go and register it now :smug:
-
MkVI is due next year, GTI is typically 6-12 months after launch.
-
....And just what exactly do we know about the Mk6 ??
-
I assume NewGolf knows something about the MK6?
I have been scouring the net for info and all the dealers I called could not give any information.
Please share what you know NewGolf.

I dont know any more than you guys (probably less!)
I'm thinking about making a website as a hobby called GolfMk6 or GolfMKVI at some point in the future and have booked a couple of domain names. The usual dot.com ones were already nabbed.
I need a second car but can make my old Mk4 last another year as a daily driver. Its just when i get in the new GTI that the wife uses I really want a new one now, but can hang on if the MK6 is imminent!

A few of the engines will carry over to the MkVI range, the GTI is rumoured to have a 230-250PS engine. The MkVI is going to cost a lot less for VW to make, so it makes you wonder if the quality will be as good as the MkV. There are strong rumours of a MkVI R36 which will be the MkV's R32 successor.
At the end of the day, no one knows anything concrete yet. Just have to wait and see...
-
....Exactly! All we can do is enjoy(?) speculating.
-
Had a bad day Rob?
Its all good speculating. But the real question is do we all honestly believe the MK6 will be better than the MK5? Is it completely possible? Or will we have to wait three generations of golfs first?
Mike

steve78; Thats right about them making it cheaper to produce..
i was just reading the auto express magazine has a little article in it about the mk6 golf..
saying they think the quality will be a less than the mk5 golfs also the gti will have the 7speed dsg which has a seperate sump oil supply and can handle more toque as the dgs out now wouldnt handle as much as a tuned manual would.
plus the 1.6 models will have a turbo
-
....Hi Mike - No, my day has been okay so far. I see your point about another three Mk's before the next proper GTI but I reckon the Mk6 will have some great features mechanically - It's the body styling I'm not confident about yet.
-
I'm hoping VW are going to suprise us all (in a pleasant way ), but I'm not holding my breath.
The MKVI looks like it is basically going to be a MKV and a half as it will have basically the same suspension although simplified for manufacture and the same basic engine types.
Internally I hope the MKVI will have the uprated DSG box along with the adjustable suspension like the Scirocco is having.
I still think it is at least 2 years off before we see the MKVI GTI as VW have just launched the Pirelli edition and that is going to take a while to sell through the system. Then the MKVI has to be launched and then about a year before the GTI makes an appearance around spring 2010 probably :undecided:
-
I cant wait that long!
I guess I love the MK5 so much it may be a tornado red soon then, ready to be modded methinks! I just popped to the garage to get a bottle of wine in the GTI. A cute girl in a Saxo came out of the shop behind me and commented "Sexy car!" as I got in! She was about 18 to 20 years old.
If I was a bit younger I'd have shown her how it goes.... :smug: :smug: :smug:
The GTI I meant lol!

MK6 Gti will have a 1.6 twincharger engine in it, mark my words.
Similar power to the current gti with better emissions.
-
In other words less is more and the moddin capabilities will be hindered....
I hate Global Warming :embarassed:

I seriously hope not, I'm hoping it has the same engine as the ED30. I'm going to do a bit of investigation today......

....In ignorance I ask why is it a problem if it has a twincharger engine?
-
Purly my personal preference
I feel that with a supercharger and a turbocharger on a small displacement engine VW are trying to squeeze every last bit of power and fuel economy possible. With the ED30 its already quite simple to increase the HP to well over 300 with a healthy amount of torque, but with the amount of power being produced from the smaller units would there be any way as much margin for gain?
Not only that but it they sound a bit "wheezy" (only my opinion) and there's a heck of a lot going on under the bonnet to go wrong!
