hi im new here have had a chance to speek to some of you and i look forward to speeking to a few more.(all very helpfull and welcoming)
Just a quick question really have just baught a mk1 cab (pic in gallery.) when in gear the stick has loads of movment in it any idea what this is caused by is it the gear linkage or is it the selctors in the box?

Good to see there are people out there that know a good car when they see one ;).
As for your gear linkage, it is more likely to be a linkage problem than a gearbox fault. Check the bushes on the linkage and make sure the 13mm nut on the bottom of the linkage bolted to the bulkhead behind the gearbox is tight, no 15. http://www.elcats.ru/audivw/vag4.asp?gid=7&cid=7&myear=1983
