I've used a mk2 loom to repair my mk1 loom but be aware, for obvious reasons they are different (fusebox in different location). I'd recommend repairing your old loom or waiting for a mk1 loom.

Not sure where you are located, but I have the correct tools for removing the crimps from within the fusebox connectors.........absolute mare to do without the correct tool ;) But it does enable you to do a pucker job without having to cut and join wires...........you'd never know mine had been repaired ;)

Im from near manchester and warrington, about 10 min from awesome gti.  Well it was because the mk2 loom has no cuts or anything within any of the wires, how hard is it to repair the loom, i dont actually know what exact wire is causing the problem, think it may be to do with the lights.

More than likely is to do with the lights..........usual culprit because people put 100W bulbs in the headlights without upgrading the loom :o
Thats what happened to my cabrio in the past.........the wire melted and melted other wires around it causing them to make contact.

I had to take my dashborad out to do it properly, sounds like a bigger job than it is. Its actually really easy and gives you full access to all the wiring. I used the burnt out wire to pull a new wire through. If you've got a full mk2 loom you should even be able to use the correct colour.
