Right folks, here's the story.
On the M55 at Blackpool yesterday, car in front slams on and stops, I slam on and stop, car behind doesn't and shunts me in to the car in front. The lad who hit me was then shunted by his mate but fortunately no further collision.
Thing is - the car I was shunted in to was an 8 DAY OLD Renault Megane. My car is only FOUR WEEKS old
The lad who hit me was driving a Rover 25, he's only 19 and has third party cover. I reckon his car is a write-off. Actually feel quite sorry for him.
The incident occured just outside Blackpool VW, apparently Ed30 parts will take about 4-6 weeks. Fortunately it's driveable.

NOT ANOTHER ONE??
Sorry to hear this mate.. I'm not sure if I want to pick my Ed30 up now.. As there seems to be some sort of vendetta against them on the road and everyone wants to smash into them..
-
not good mate, hope it gets sorted
-
I SAW IT!!!! didnt see the crash but was driving past and saw an ed30 at the side of the road with rear damage and a rover looking very sorry for its self!!
sorry to hear it was yours.
-
Blimey! This is an alarming trend!!
Better keep an eye on me rear view mirror when I stop, and leave a BIG gap in front!!
Hope you get it sorted soon, isn't there an issue with ED30 rear bumpers??

Some silly bint almost hit me this morning. I was stationary in a queue and she hit the brakes at the last minute and screeched to a halt. She saw me looking in my mirror at her and she waved to acknowledge what nearly happened as if to say sorry and she had a bloody Blackberry in her hand!

Some silly bint normally hit me this morning. I was stationary in a queue and she hit the brakes at the last minute and screeched to a halt. She saw me looking in my mirror at her and she waved to acknowledge what nearly happened as if to say sorry and she had a bloody Blackberry in her hand!
Nuff said!!!

That should have said "almost hit me" rather than normally. Oops...

Yeah I know, women drivers just dont have a clue ! ;)

Sorry to hear that M
Using my conspiracy theory head, it is a secret plan by VW UK to reduce the numbers of the ED30 back to 1500 by hiring people to write them off

Sorry mate... I’m gutted for you... Hotrod

Get yourself to A & E and report 'whiplash' - worth £2k ;-)

Which indirectly pushes everyone else's premiums up...

Hi Jonesgti - well it's a small world. Can I bribe you in to being a witness    (seriously - only joking!)
I have to say - I was so glad to be in the Golf and not the Rover. The Rover's front has completely gone whereas the Golf, although damaged, isn't in too bad a state.
So much for British engineering!

I all seriousness - not felt too good since it. Headaches and my back / neck are killing me. I was actually on my way to see a friend who happens to be a solicitor, I bet you can see where this story might end up ...

That sounds a little too far fetched to be implausible

First time poster, just joined as I have ordered myself a GTi and should get it delivered in July (sooner hopefully) before the MK6 comes out as I think the Mk6 looks a bit rubbish. Anyway back on topic...
Sorry to hear about the accident, can the Ed30 be cursed? My brother was in a similar accident on the A2. A car stopped in the third lane but he managed to stop in time to avoid hitting it but came to stop. Pointed his car into the middle lane and was indicating to move into the middle lane when a woman driving some banger of a hyundai crashes into the back of his car, spinning him 108 degrees across all three lanes. He ends up (avoiding all the traffic) facing the wrong side on the road when a truck hits him. Luckily the truck hit the passenger side of the car and he managed to walk away from it with just minor whiplash. Could be a coincidence that both occasions they were women drivers...
The GTi I have ordered is diamond black 5 door, DSG, winter pack, luxury pack 6CD changer and sat nav. I can't wait. My existing car is a Citroen Saxo diesel which I have had for 11 years! So no doubt the GTi will be slightly faster.
-
11 years in a diesel saxo!! Jesus christ that must be a record of some type!
I think you,l just notice the difference just a bit!
WELCOME.

I was on the phone to a friend whilst the engine was on and was asked if I was in a farm next to tractor. I replied that the sound you can hear is actually my car, thank you very much!
I had some really good times in it. Took it to glastonbury a couple of times and squeezed 3 mates and all the camping gear too! Also took it to see the solar eclipse in cornwall as well. Ah good times.
-
sh*t man am a damaged ed30 too , long as your ok.
-
you and me both mate. People must really have it in for us GTI drivers
I put it down to envy !
Hope it gets sorted soon
-
Im really sorry to hear about the damage. But at least you are ok.
Good luck with insurance etc. I remember how annoying it was for me as a teenager to deal with the damage I inflicted to a two week old brand new Audi A4.
Hope all goes well.

Got a letter from the insurers of the chap in front of me today, holding me responsible for his damage.
Not that surprised really, most of the people who work in insurance are muppets, the chap did confirm I was stationary and was shunted in to him, I hope he's not now changed his tune ...
Car goes in for repairs on Tuesday, Lindvale VW, Chelmsford, getting the 'yips' about it, anyone would think my (non-existant) wife was going in to labour    (pregnancy, not the political party...)
-
Just had a chat with someone in work who happens to be a motor engineer. He didn't have long to stop but had a look at the photos.
He reckons the 'rear panel' (?something behind the rear bumper) will have been hit and requires welding? He reckons 1200-1500 quid for the rear damage, front not too bad.
He didn't have long to stop I'm afraid as I wanted to quiz him, can anyone out there give me any pointers on what I should look out for / get the repairers to do?
Many thanks all
Martin
