right, been working on the 20v, and the speedo drive, the cog bit on the end of the speedo cable has dropped into the gearbox...
whats the best way of retreiving this? im guessing its gonna be seriously fiddly!
-
maybe one of those extendable magnets, or extendable "claw"

I bet that caused some four letter words...

pretty sure its plastic!
what gearbox is it mate?
-
I think some one on here has had that happen before and just leaving it didnt cause any probs !
P.S they should be plastic
-
yeah its the 8v gearbox me thinks... but just wondered if there was a tried and tested method other than dismatleing the gearbox, for getting the bugger out. might drain the gear oil and see if i can see a little better...
which plug is it on the bottom of the gearbox for oil drain? the small 13mm bolt, or the huge fook off mazzive allen get nut under the diff?
-
That sucks! the second one is the one to undo. Not sure if it will help you get it out but those claws on a flexible rod are great for picking up nuts and such that I always drop. If you can see it you should be able to grab it.
-
i cant see it yet... but i can feel it, think its slipped sideways and needs moving so its upright, then i'll just lift it out, cant do anything for a week or so now i dont think so just have to wait and see lol...

It is the 17 mm allen nut, its the same size as the nut you have to remove to fill the box

just let the gears crush it up, then drain and refill. Oh and this has been covered loads of times before, use the search function ta.
