-
Did it rain? Did it rain?
Morning was good but the afternoon was a bit "moist"
Couldn't get the traction on the strip and bl00dy traction control kept cutting in even though I'd turned it off
14.12 at 101.9mph.
Needed the coilies on  to control the mad hopping and tyre shredding
Met some more members for the first time too - so all was good
and Red Robin even became famous :lipsrsealed:
-
RedRobin became famous?? To be honest for some reason i thought he was...tell us the story Hurdy

Haha,
He tried to get a passenger ride down the strip in someone else's car (not allowed) and was told to get out by the officials - to a round of applause - and then he pulled a moony
I nearly wet myself

Well Done Red!

....Just got home - 4hr drive but in spirited company for first part (Audi S3's can really shift!! One had been on the strip and still had the numbers).
Great to meet some more peeps from here.
The officials were very nice about us not knowing about passenger rides - No problem at all. Yes, as there was a rumble from the crowd when I got out the car I decided to raise my arms in a salute which then got a very loud cheer and I then took it a step further by shaking my ass at the crowd and pulling my waterproof trousers down (but I did have trousers on underneath) - It was much appreciated though and for a very brief moment I felt a bit like Spike from the movie "Notting Hill".
Vid with when Spike opens the door to the crowd :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUjIYX9IAYs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUjIYX9IAYs)

....Nice vid for Hurdy, Dom  - His best time of the day - Very respectable considering how slippery it all was.
-
Yes enjoyed the day, again nice to meet a few faces to names, hurdy, steveS,horney,Markymark, whitegtidriver,Redrobin, and a few other forum members cars but never saw its owners!.3 hour drive home which my dam vw sat nav directed me onto the M1 straight onto 1 hrs worth of traffic cues!!!.totally a different route to the one it sent me up on much to my disgust
Was quite a sight watching passers by gorping at the mk5's especially a certain carbon fibre bonnet and Tattoo!
Even found my wife being chatted up by some mysterious looking fella, knew alot about Mk5's... i wonder who he is????????????????.Likes a touch of carbon fibre aparently

We really enjoyed the day today albeit cut short due the showers. Was good to meet a few faces off here, Hurdy & Phil McCavity, wasnt brave enough to knock on anyones window and intro myself, no-one would know who I was anyway as im a newbie!
-
Is that Hurdy chatting up your wife then? :lipsrsealed:

Nice to see you on the day Mark
Phil spotted your GTI front lip from 100 yards away
Remember, if you don't go up and talk to people, you could end up missing out on something  and I don't like missing out

Managed to get one of Hurdy's run filmed - have put it on YouTube:

Great Vid that Dom, and my....err...fastest run too. pity the track was so slippy though.
Also a great compilation further down the thread
-
Thanks John,
I know it was dry when you did that run - how do you feel about the time when compared to the time you ran last year as stock? Let me know if you want a copy of that footage. Was filmed in hD so YouTube does not give it justice.

Nice to see some of the motors off here in the end.. Especially Hurdy's tattoo'd beast.. Do like that Miltek, tailpipes looked proper .
I didn't really get much chance to speak with any of you chaps. As everytime I walked past the cars, noone was there.. Did introduce myself to Hurdy very briefly while he was demonstrating his ICE... But i'm sure they'll be plenty of other meets...
As for the actual show itself... Didn't think it was a great turn out on the whole to be honest (going on past shows)... (apart from the you boys of course)..
Hardly any Audi's ( S3's etc ) Leon Cupra's, just not many of the new hot hatch brigade at all apart from the Mk5's.. Rest was just the usual swarm of Mk1 and Mk2 Golfs...
Then on top of that, Santa Pod's usual sh!te organisation skills took affect and took hours to get the strip back up and running after a down pour, only to interupt the running after 5 mins of them starting again to run the FOOKING Jet Car down. Then sure enough it started raining again, that's when I did one... Just feel really sorry for the poor chaps who were running.. Soooo glad I wasn't..
I just think they need to throw some money at the place to be honest. As the prices have gone up a good 20-30% in the past year or so, but yet the facilities are gettin worse IMO..
-
well it is GTI festival
its only in recent years that they let anything other than golfs have show stands
-
Suppose, but the last few i've been to have had a lot better VAG turn out.. Just thought it was a little quiet this year.. Probably down to the unsettled weather scaring people off..
-
Probably needs changing to VAG Spring Festival to attract a wider audience :undecided:
Yeah, saw you Vtec abuser and I thought that you'd still be by the stand when I got out, but you'd gone. I was gonna introduce you to some more of the regulars. Never mind, there's always the GTI International later this year.
-
Don't think it has the same ring to it mate.. ha . But I just thought it was a little quieter than previous shows in regards to the other VAG members..
Look forward to Brunters though, must admit.. Will meet you all properly then..
Oh and Hurdy, get some new rubber this time..
-
whats happening for Inters, not seen anything about it on here yet?

I wish I could go to as show like that. Here in South Africa we dont have shows and meets like this. I would have loved to watch. :embarassed:

I was there and wa sparked on the club dislplay that was down the bottom as you come off the strip.
Was a bit miserable weather-wise and I don't think there was as many traders as there have been in the past. Good turnout of clubs though and I enjoyed walking round the show & shine.
I'd have been gutted if I'd pay to go on the strip though, it was shut more than it was open!
