anyone fancy organising this? i really want one! yabe not a 6 point but maybe a half cage for the back
-
Well I need a 6 pointer for my G2 Syncro, but I'm only in if we're going for FIA-spec cages - no point unless they're 'proper'.
What are people thinking? OMP or something?
-
i am interested but financial matters may mean backing out so call me a maybe at the mo. i agree it needs to be propper though. stu mentioned custom cages if you have a look in the other thread
-
Im Willing to Put some phone calls in an see what kind of discounts are available for a group buy
But im only looking to get a proper FIA 6 point - The custom cages on that ive seen look superb value and from what ive read the build quality is second to none
http://www.customcages.co.uk/corekits.htm
Like Lewis though Finance is the sticking point - might have to be im a month 2 months time before im ready to take the hit
Also , what are we looking at Group buying , MK2 cages or a selection of different ones ?
-
Count me in, I would want a 6 point for a Mk 3.
OMP, Sparco, or the custon cages core kit would be fine with me.
Cheers
Paul
-
So you can only get one if you order a 6 point? im all about weight saving now  6 points are heavy man!!! i may aswel put my interior back in!!!

The weight will pay for itself in stiffer chassis, better handling and faster lap times. Thats even without thinking of the safety aspect.

Innit.
Some things have benefits that aren't immediately obvious. Money spent on safety isn't really wasted. Provided the cage is to a proper spec then it'll make a world of difference to the car and you can also use it as a base to add to (further fastenings to the shell etc).
-
ok so my arm has been well and truely twisted to the point of breaking!! put me down for a 6 point!!!
does the roll cage really add stiffness to the shell, i thought it was purely saftey.

Yes, much better than a rear strut brace, it will stop most chassis flex, front to rear and sideways, obviously the more fixing points the stiffer, and welding them in will be stiffer than bolting.
The stiffer chassis performance will far outweigh the extra 20 to 30kgs.

Any people have any preferances , personally i like the look of the custom cages , they are a uk firm , little bit smaller than the others and have a contact number on there website so might be easier do deal with regarding somethig like this
-
How loud do I have to shout to get myself added to the list?!
Golf2 Syncro (shell's different)
-
me 2 ..............
-
YB Racing have said they can offer a discount for 5 plus cages. They supply the OMP bolt in type.
I have asked them for a delivered price.
Cheers

It might be worth speaking to Ken at Automanics, see what he'll do you on a group buy. His cages and all the stuff he fabricates are to an extremely high quality. www.automanics.com
-
im interested perhaps only as a maybe at the moment (finances, unsure of reliability of project car)
any idea on price?
-
I was already looking at YB Racing (they have Rallye cages on Fleabay). Seem like a sound enough outfit at this distance, although I'd be interested to know delivery times on Syncro cages (as listed on the OMP website).
-
Should have some prices on Monday.
The OMP site lists the synchro and rallye cages as the same as the mk2 ones.
I don't know the difference in the body style if there is any.

I would have thought that any "off the shelf" cage will have some fitting issues, most cars will be slightly different and the body shell stressed and twisted in different areas. The plus side of an off the shelf cage is less welding to get the cage into the car, floor plates and door bars, rather than a kit of parts that all require welding together like the custom cages core kits. All depends on what you want and whether you have to pay someone for the welding. I'm not decided which way to go yet.
im very much a maybe as im not sure the project will be on the road this year yet...
Yes, no obligation, only trying to sort out prices so a decision can be made to go ahead or wait till a later date.
Is anyone contacting custom cages?
Cheers
Paul

I have no problems with welding out any issues with a supplied cage.....so long as the bars aren't too short!
I'll email Custom Cages on Monday to see what they have to say.

is that inc vat?
where do you bolt the cages? do you need to drill the floorpan/chassis?
-
Yes including the dreaded VAT
As far as I know you need to weld stiffening plates to the floor etc then drill through plates and floor etc to bolt the cage in.
Cheers
Paul
-
Ill try to get hold of custom cages , even without the discount they are cheaper than the OMP one
ill email them see what they can do
-
i would be interested too..... mk3 cheers
-
£340 inc delivery is good isnt it? i've never looked into the price of them but that seams quite good, can we get a better price tho?
-
ill see what custom cages come back with , they are cheaper out the box plus it sounds daft but id much rather support a UK company
-
COUNT ME IN! I'll have a six pointer for my mk2!
Looking at the Custom Cages price list they are VERY cheap anyway so a further discount on the 258 quid they want for their 'Core Kit 6' would be spot on!
But yeah, add me to the list please! Funds are waiting!
Cheers,
Andy
*Quick edit* just noticed the list prices are excluding VAT so maybe put me down for a 'Core Kit 5' as I think the door bars would become annoying with everyday use.
-
still with VAT they work out cheaper than the OMP cage
-
Fight!
