I quote
8.4 secs for a 106 gti to 60, yes i've read that too and its actualy wrong!
they hit it in 7.4 standard !
a few mods and ur away!
But its not only speed, how much less do you think a 106 gti insurance is than all them golfs, which has twice as good handling
so ... he reckons he can stay with/beat a VR6 and a mk2 16v.
what u reckon? ... I reckon its "poo" cos I'm pretty sure a Lupo GTI can beat a 106 GTI
-
not so sure on the speed side of things but the 106 gti is supposed to handle well..remember it will weigh fek all due to flimsy build :)
-
well he now thinks they come out of the factory with 133bhp as standard????
hmmmm
-
120 or 125 as standard I think. a mate has one on throttle bodies kicking 160bhp
-
i used to have a saxo which is basically the same car, it was on koni shocks etc and lowered 40m and i could do m3's round most corners, mate had a polo gti and i could keep up with him in pretty much any road, they handle like a go kart, but they arent predictable, they just let go BIG TIME even with standard suspension without warning. at least golfs you can feel and correct
-
yeah 106 Gti is about 125bhp, theyre real pocket rockets, my Missus used to have one, I think they'll surprise most of you on performance - It would certainly knock the socks of an 8v.
She now has a 206 GTi, hate to say it chaps but it would give any of yous a run for your money.
Dont be too confident at the lights next time your up against one.
.......I'd never go French tho, they do rattle to bits, my valver pees on it for build quality. I cant convert her, I might try after a few cans of Stella ;)
-
Agree with Omar. Have a mate with a 106GTi. It is pretty quick and handles really well. Never raced him in the 16v and to be honest i wouldn't. (I might now i've got the VR6, but not round corners).
Golf GTis (mk3s) are not great cars to race in. But there's a big list of other things that make them great. ;D
-
Ive taken a 106GTI up to 100Ft before he shot past, They have bollocks all traction ;) After that he was gone tho >:(
-
They depreciate like a c*nt tho.
and their as dated as the mk3 .. they came out on a 91 reg? and only had a small tweak and new-ish (kinda) chassis in 1996 .. 1996 FFS .. no changes since then!
What a wreck LOL
-
i got a mate with a 106 rallye and it kept up with a mk2 8v, mk2 16v and a mr2 so they are actually quite quick! the order of the race was mr2, 16v,8v, rallye
-

with vr6 you get quality...............i know the vr6 is faster than a ferrari 308 gtsi!!!! ;D
vr6 beats ferrari is true evidence proves it..........
106 beats a ferrari ;D you would get laughed at........
-
more like he can beat a vr6 which has a faulty hall sender.......... ;D
all talk..........if he has wow great but i dont think its true........ was the other guy racing i bet he didnt even stick his foot down..............
the vr6 s**** all over the 8v golf gti mate cant keep up and in the wet he's gone no chance......ive got abs he hasnts heavy brake at last miniute in wet i know my wheels wont lock he cant keep up....... ;D
ive been out in the vr6 i do feel much safer in it!
that abs makes the difference!
abs is a wonderful thing! you know how good it is once youve got it!
-
my mate has a P reg 106 gti and it only has a k&n in it and its lowered he has topped it out at 145mph i not been in it at that speed but i have been in it at 135mph dam quick!.

Went in a friends 106gti at 100mph, felt wholly unstable and very scary compared to MK3 16v and VR6. I think 145mph with just a k&n is highly improbable.

I have ABS on my 8v. 8)

For what its worth when I had my Vectra I raced a 106GTI coming from J10 A3 M25 onto J7 M23 towards Gatwick... Came off M25 I undertook him on the slip road pulled infront, we both slowed down for a car but when that car went I gave it ALL I had, and I'm not scared to redline it in every gear, it was a company car.... Anyhoo, He was keeping up, just, upto about, well fast, then I waved as my more powerfull engine took care of the rest so I would find it very hard to believe a standard 106GTI would beat a standard GTI 8V let alone a VR6... ;)
-
What Vectra was it? SRI?
-
A 106 GTi will happily do 0-60 in 7.4 secs in standard form. It will p1ss all over any Golf (standard v standard) through the twisties. They are great little fun cars to drive, just not built very well.
The 306 GTi-6 is even quicker than 106, then the 306 Rallye is quicker still. Don't think even a VR6 could keep up with a 306 GTi/Rallye, they have 167bhp standard and don't weigh all that much, VR6 unfortunately would definitely have no chance through the corners.
-
The 106 and 306 are slower on the straight 0-60 than a vr6, by quite a bit.
The only thing that lets the vr6 down is the sloppy stock suspension, easily sorted though ;)
-
What's the 0-60 of the VR6. I know that standard 306 Rallye's will do 60 in about 6.9 secs (as proven with proper timing gear etc etc)
-
The 0-60 on vr6 is about 7 secs, probably slightly above.
I don't know about the 306 rallye, but the standard 306 gti 6 isn't as quick.
-
Parkers says 306 GTI-6 does 0-60 in 8.5 seconds:
Model: 2.0 GTi-6 3d
CC: 1998/4
BHP: 167
Top Speed: 135
0-60: 8.5
kg: 1220
-
Golf stats for selected models (Am I turning into Black_GTI? ;))
Mk4 (1512 kg)
1.8 GTI: 125bhp, 125mph, 0-60 in 9.6s
1.8T GTI: 150bhp, 134mph, 0-60 in 8.2s (didn't have full stats for 180bhp version)
2.0 GTI: 115bhp, 121mph, 0-60 in 10.2s
Mk3 (1315 kg)
VR6: 174bhp, 140mph, 0-60 in 7.4s
16v GTI: 150bhp, 134mph, 0-60 in 8s
8v GTI: 115bhp, 123mph, 0-60 in 9.8s
VR6 wins. ;D
-
I know the VR6 is faster .. this other dork doesnt tho ::)
-
WTF?? 25BHP power increase from bolting on a turbo?? Is that it?
Ive seen guys clock 200BHP+ increases from putting forced induction on a D series honda engine, I think the boys at VW need to have a real good think about what there doing with there turbos ???
-
Parkers use the "official" Pug figures for their stats which are done with 2 passengers in the car and a half tank of petrol. (Not sure how VW do theirs though) I've seen 306 Rallyes get to 60 in 6.9 consistently (standard) and the GTi6 do it in 7.1 (again standard) all done with proper timing gear.
Should be pretty close in a straight line, but I think standard v standard the pug's would have it round the bends. I take it though that once the suspension on the VR6 is sorted it's pretty handy round the curvy bits? Would be interesting to see them go head to head. Anyone going to Trax this year?
