Title: Interior door handle problem

just bought my first golf and there seems to be a problem with the interior door handle. sometimes it'll open and sometimes it takes about 10 tries - making me look rather silly  :embarassed:
Anyone had a similar problem or know if it's easy to sort out?

inside the door card the handle is connected to the lock mechanism by a cable which hooks onto the handle. if it opens eventually it must be hooked on so that suggests its something to do with the other end, ie. where the cable connects to the lock mechanism...
