Title: KJET vs DIGIFANT
Post by: frankerooney on 15 April 2004, 14:30
I know this has been probably been asked before - which is better - DIGIFANT or KJET? I've got KJET on my 1990 Scirocco but my golf of the same age has digifant. Just wondered why the difference...?
Any scirocco fans out there? Can't understand why it didn't take off as much as the golf - mine has far far better handling than the golf, and is quicker. Golf has it on practicality though I suppose..
Anyone know of any decent uk scirocco forums?

Scirrocos are so much cooler! Who knows why they didn't catch on! Probably the price. Its like the old passats, i think they're beter too!!

Maybe its like Beta and VHS... VHS is a cheap budget copy of Beta, but Beta was just too expensive so no one bought it, and VHS overtook it. Like MD too. Its so common tht the better thnigs get overlooked!

k-jet Vs Digifant.

Im not a big fan of k-jet but they seem to be more tunable than a digifant. prefer a digifant as its a newer engine

In theory the digifant should be more tunable as it runs an ECU, certainly better if you want to turbo it.

A K-Jet GTi will seem to have slight better performance than a Digifant ...

The reason is the K-Jet gives much better throttle responce and hence seems faster - get your Digifant ECU chipped and you'll be cooking with gas as the only reason it's less responsive is VW designed it that way to get better fuel ecomony.

The ultimate power of both is the same - just how they behave. I've had my Digifant chipped latley and it's sooooooooo much more responsive - few extra horses too  ;D

well if your handy with a screw driver it's a simple DIY job - so just the cost of the chip !

I got mine as a 'copy' of a brand name chip for ?50 so a bargin, keep an eye out on eBay as they quite often come up second hand.

If your desperate try http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ and you can get one for ?150

erm ... no idea actually

Generally you get anything up to 10% power increase from a chip on an N/A engine so around 10bhp max.

The main diference is the charateristics of the engine and how the power is delivered, it's much improved over the original chip as it's designed with more agressive fuel and timing maps, plus the ECU 3 second cycle is gone so much better throttle responce.

I suppose in answer to the original question - Digifant. After all Digifant 1 runs the G60 engine, so having Digifant 2 in my normally aspirated 8v will make the conversion so much easier ;) ;D

I do like the fact that Kjet is so simple to work on though. :)
