Title: Extremely expensive pop rivets
Post by: dadrathers on 05 April 2008, 19:50
OK heat shield above rear exhaust box is held on with 'star' washers clamped onto pins sticking down from the underside of the car. One had rusted enough to allow the corner of the heat shield to drop onto the exhaust - nice tinny rattle. OK me thinks get to the stealers and buy some new pins and star washers - replace them all on this heat shield while I am at it. Nooo! Star washers are pence but these pins that are called pop rivets in ETKA are £5.50.... EACH.

Anybody had similar prob and how sorted?

Cheers.

can you not just use normal rivets, with a washer?

This happened to me only just this week.  Check out my ghetto fix: I used exhaust paste to fix a nut onto the pin (like a glue).
