Well what a roller coaster day in the life of MkII ownership
After 4 days of hammering up and down to hospital twice a day ( didnt miss a beat and returned 28.9 MPG despite some spirited driving ) the old girl got a quick check over
And its dropping oil like a good un  and the battery light is shining brighter than the lights at Blackpool, but only intermittently . - The bad day.
So after the daughter was safely returned home from her stay with the Not very good Health Service -I set about tinkering
stripped the rocker cover off and gave it all a good clean and new seal . so heres hoping it was that thats leaking and its not from lower down - namely the head gasket.

and it does seem the rear corner wasnt fitted very well at the recent engne rebuild prior to me buying the car
next was a good clean down of all the contacts on the alternator and battery etc and so far so good - the lights stayed off
So with everything going good - i decided to check on the front brakes as they has had some abuse and the bad started
Firstly I pi$$ed the neighbours off - didnt notice the time :embarassed:

then i notice my outer nearside CV Boot has spilt - Back to bad again
Old cars - Love 'em or Hate 'em - They make ya Friday evenings fly by

My day with the mk2 went like this:
Fitted petrol filter to flexi metal pipe (ordered from powersteeringstore.co.uk a few weeks ago) - plain sailing.
Fitted new exhaust clamp and paste to try and get rid of the blow inbetween the downpipe and middle section - took a bit of paste, but job done.
Reversed off the ramps - took the driverside off on my big bumper
-
ah - the old front spliter removal .. mine does this everytime i reverse on or off the driveway

I've done it loads of times before and it's caught but been ok - one of the clips on the bumper (driverside) was already goosed though, now the whole driverside of the bumper is held on with a bit of washing line

Sounds fun... Mine was goood, took a trip to LongLife and got a full system fitted..... Bad bit was the price, the vectra courtesy car and my head unit frying on the way back... but hey who needs a stereo when golfs sound sooooo good!

I've got the original Panasonic 493 sitting on my tumble drier that works perfectly no wires chopped still in mint condition  Swapped that out for a Sony H/U although I might keep the 493 so I can sell the car in 'Factory spec + rust' status

well took it out for a test run today - leaks still there BUT and its abloody big but
CHECK THE SIMPLE THINGS FIRST .
The oil was leaking from the filler cap -
then tracking along the top of the rocker cover then down and back    only noticeable now I had CLEANED the rocker cover as its always been dirty. :lipsrsealed:
-
Doh! Well at least you found the cause now

I'm thinking I might have this same problem... I've got oil around the oil filler cap and coming down the side/back... Going to investigate tomorrow.
