Title: emissions light on dash, is it due to chip
Post by: antgti on 15 April 2004, 00:07
As you know my pd130 has a van aaken tuning box on it,  Recently 3 times now the emmisions workshop warning has come up on the dash, and leaves the engine block light on. This lasts for a day at the most.

Ia m sure it's due to the chip, my thinking is that as more diesel is being pumped through it's clogging up the lambda sensor and triggring the warning light, car is 4 months old and has 12k showing, is this a common thing or should whip off the tuning box and take it to the dealer?

Are you getting loads of black smoke coming out the back?

not tonnes, but visibly more than before the tuning box was put on, only when you really boot it and at night you see it more in following cars headlihts.

In the owners book it says to take it to a dealer straight away if that light comes up, what say you.

I would try unplugging the box, see what happens.
Do diesels have cats fitted? i think they do.
I suppose if you are burning too much diesel then you might cook the cat.
 ;)

i think the sensor in the exhaust comes before the cat, but if you are making lots one of smoke one of two things are happening either the fuel mixture is too rich or combustion temperature is not high enough.

it could even be a faulty o2 sensor?

have a nice day
