well what a faf that was :grin: Didnt know you had to modify the airbox to fit the intake pipe.... Oh well smoothed the airbox whist i was there and my car now sounds completely different, more grunty :shocked:

well when you look at the standard one when you remove it and compare it to the new one it makes you wonder what vw were thinking

You need
1) a mate
2) to take the front bumper, head light and Air box out
3) a dremmel, socket set, screwdriver set, torx set
4) to modify the airbox to take the new intake snorkle with the dremel
Think it took me and my mate 2 hours to get it all off and then smooth the airbox and put it all back together again with the new parts

And I fitted my Pipercross filter. defo sounds so much better altho who knows about performance :smiley:

well taking the front bumper off is easy, torx screws in the wheel arches, behind the lower vents and behind the grill, then it slides off two brackets either side, takes about 15mins when you know where everything is. The headlight is two screws top and two bottom and then take the headlight cover off and remove the wiring clip off at the back. Then you take the battery clamp off and either tilt the battery back or take it off. The airbox is held on with two screws and is cliped onto the intake manifold (u also have to remove the maf wiring clip) and the snorkel is held on with one nut onto the side of the engine bay. Once you have that out you then need to take the back of the headlight surround off which is three of them split pin clips then that slides out, replace that with the new one and refit the battery then line the new snorkel up to the airbox and see how much you have to grind away. After you have done that fit the snorkel to the car and refit the airbox and then refit all the trim the oposite way round, like I say it took me and my mate 2 hours but was well worth it

I've removed the bumper and lights before, so I'm half way there. The stuff with the box sounds interesting.
Definitely something to do AFTER I've moved and have a driveway :)

Yea defo, how is that little situation developing? It is worth it mate just a good job id bought a dremel to smooth the airbox because you need that to widen the hole in the airbox for the new snorkel. It sounds so much beefier now, like a deeper throaty roar. So ive fitted that, smoothed the airbox and fitted a pipercross filter, think thats all I can do to the intake side of things now :smiley:

I have a cheap knock off dremel tool thing, think it'll do the job nicely :)

Just undo the lower bolt that holds the battery down & bob's your uncle.........

^^^^^ Not at all mate, the peice that sits at the back of the headlight is held on with three of them split pin things, you need to remove the bumper to get to it because its below the headlight, how would u get to that?
As anyone else fitted this? and what did you do? im sure Rhys has fitted it and he removed the bumper....

yep had to remove the front bumper for the access

I managed it the other day while fitting my mates CAI, you just have to know where that clip is and do it without the aid of your eyes :wink:
Reckon this would be of any benefit to me considering I've got a K&N? I've left the snorkel and air feed to it so that it gets some air from the front...
Anyone got the part numbers handy?

well by just looking at the size difference i bet it does sound like its got more balls!! think this may be a worth while thing to do

Thats the badger! Its quite a handy tool to have. you will need it to bore a bigger hole in the side of your airbox, and you might as well smooth the inside whilst your there! oh and underneath your filter there is a sort of funneling pipe that you need to remove, it sits on a clip. Rip it out and then smooth of the bracket.
Sounds like its got alot more balls now

Forgot about that! I had the wheel arch liner off because I had just removed the VIS, so got at the bottom clip from the other side.
ps Good way to get those clips out, incidentally, is to push through the back of them with a smallish torx bit, I found!! :afro:

Yea you have to knock the middle out first before you can remove the pin
