Hi lads
Its not what you think...
Ive been mulling over getting a golf gti now for a few months
went out for a test in one last week & made my mind up.
I wanted to order the basic spec, when I was in the dealers the guy went to look what was available on the system.
He came back & said they had one that was going through the system.
He said they could get it over within about a month if I ordered it now.
Which I did .......
Got a call yesterday to say they would have it at the dealers for me by next wednesday.
So arranged to pick it up next friday.
So thats less than two weeks from order to delivery.
From reading the forums i thought it would be months before I could get one.
Is this unusual or have I got lucky...? :undecided:
I asked them if they needed my insurance cover note to register it..
they said yes, but if i spoke to vw insurance they would give me 7 days complimentary.
So the dealer could tax it, then I could arrange my own to follow on from the week after.
has anyone else used this vw insurance & any advice on wether to use it ?
I suppose I could get my own as well to start on the same day...
now Ive got to plan my first days drive ......
cheers

I used the VW 7 day insurance when I got my car. They gave me a quote for 12 months at the same time but after the 7 days are up you only have to contact them if you want to start the 12 month policy. I didn't because they were 2 1/2 times more expensive than anyone else! They are underwritten by Zurich insurance.

Very often they have cars in stock that are already built, they just have to deliver them to the dealer from wherever they may be and then PDI them. If you're not bothered about the spec you may often get a good discount on a car already built and in stock, you just can't choose your own options.
I used the 7-day free VW insurance so that my car could be taxed, I think it's underwritten by Zurich. As above they give you a quote for 12months also ... which I laughed down the phone at them

I used the 7 day insurance too and the 12 month quote made splurt coffee all over my monitor it was so laughable

I used the Audi 7 Day insurance when I bought my 3.2 Audi, prior to the current Golf. (Same provider)
They quoted me £3500 and with my girlfriend as an extra driver it went up to £5000. Despite the fact the underwriters were aware of her having a 3.2 Audi of her own. I even had to provide details of every previous performance car we've owned to show adequate experience!!
The guy on the phone basically said they didn't want my business and that Zurich want the older driver market.
I'm 29, not 18!!
Definitely shop around, I've been unable to better Privilige over the last 7 years. Their on-line prices are cheaper than over the phone and if you have house insurance with Direct Line you'll get an additional discount.

I used the free insurance from VW too. Their quote for the 12 months was £2800, I settled on Privilege at £512

Ive had a quote from direct line for £360 .
rising to about £410 to protect my no claims.
Suppose I shall just take the free week & sort it myself.
Only problem is my bike insurance is due next week too...
