How are the fasteners held to the carpets ? screw in ?
-
Why?
Are you thinking about changing the carpets?
-
not really, just want some spares, but i noticed they have different fastners, mine are the pop on ones, just wondered if they screw out
-
Do the Edition 30's have different mats to the GTI. Or are they just standard GTI ones? Reason I ask is I assume i'll need to be getting some sorted for mine (assuming they don't come with any) and i'm fooked if i'm paying £72 from VW..
Where did you boys get yours? Looked on Ebay, but they all seem to be chear rip offs..

To answer the question
My GTI has plastic tabs which turns through 90 degrees to lock the mats to the carpet. 2 tabs at the rear of each mat (drivers seat end).
But there again, it's not an Ed 30 - nothing so vulgar :smug:

ok, thanks, but i know that bit, i want to know how the fastener is connected to the carpet itself on the floor, forget the actual mat

I have been known to log off every now and then

anyone actually know ?
-
My mat tabs are fixed through the actual carpet. They are plastic and the mats have a recess to allow them to fit over/on and then turn the tab 90 degrees to lock the mat down.

ok, forget about the mat part, say you lost the whole mat,and all your left with is the lug in the carpet on the floor of the car, you buy new mats but they dont fit yout old lugs, so you want to remove the old lugs, how do they come out !!
-
Never tried it. If i was to try it I would lift the carpet and look at the underside to see if it was a two-piece "press-stud" type fitting. If it wasn't I would then try screwing it off.

Probably a "press-stud" type then. If it is it will be in two pieces and so you would have to lift the carpet to get the underside part out.

bugger, not good then lol

If its anything like the clips in the mat then they will be press stud type - ribbed on the inside to grip. You could try prising them apart with a flat screwdriver...

This link gives some idea of the standard carpet mat fixings:

Basically you bought the wrong year mats for your model I think
Best sell your old mats and get the new correct fitting mats for your model year :smug:
The lugs changed on all Golfs last year I believe
On new cars they are just round lugs and the mats have round holes and just push on
On older cars they are oval and you twist the lug 90 degrees to secure mat in place
So if anyone is buying mats on E-bay - Check your current fitting and check with the seller
-
they must of changed them in some of the later 07 models as mine are the straight locking pin type and not the turn lever style which my 05 GTi had before. Its not just a fitment for the ed30
-
i actually have not got the mats yet, and the dealer knows what my model year is so should provide the correct ones, this post was in case he doesnt supply the correct ones
