Title: headlining?
Post by: antogoof on 02 April 2008, 16:09
i have just bought a mk1 which needs the headlining redoing or cleaning, i would just like to know how much it would cost for a retrim, i have been on DB cartrim`s website and it has a typical price of £65 for a mk1 gti so i can get a rough idea off that. at the moment all i know is the headlining is moldy so if it is still intact i will just want to clean it for now. can anyone recommend a good cleaner for this? thanks in advance.

I've just been cleaning the headlining of my rather mouldy cabriolet.
I used W5 window cleaner, basically Windowleen and a nail brush to scrub the mould off and wiped off with an old towel. It's come up a treat.
The brush helps get into the texture of the headlining.

I thought I was going to need new headlinign till I did this.

Ensure that you lining has been fitted correctly, well your hood in general

Also, I remember Gibby mentioning something about the "stuffing" (i dont know the correct term) is all in place and it tact as this can obviously cause saggin with the hood..

Like M said, your best bet would be to buy yourself some cleaner and get scrubbing - best way to find out for yourself if there are any rips or snags

Guys...quick note, if you do replace your hood, i was always advised to give it a 7 day "rest" period before actually operating it..

Great idea that. I'll make sure I do that when I replace mine.

Thanks Dinx. Any other super tips on replacing the hood?
