Title: Remaps for GTI (Manual) which one and prices?
Post by: bling on 02 April 2008, 09:33
Hi to all forum members.
Bought myself a gti manual and have been reading up about remaps but keep getting so many different stories.
Is there a thread with prices, Pro's and Con's of certain remaps?
looked at the sticky thread and its ok but does't have every map available.
also would be nice if they had details of who was selling the remaps aswell.
thanks

Yes thanks for the advice. does the standard gti work aswell on the remaps as the ed30?
and was it hard changing the facia to a screen and is that a double din screen?

my apr map behaves superbly over 13000 miles and 6 months use.

very smooth, progressive delivery and night and day faster than a standard golf.

lost about 4 mpg but i think because you are encouraged to drive faster by the car, this cant be helped

yes i have had bluefin on other cars like the focus rs and it works really good!
only thing i found was that the company are bloddy crooks when it came to reseting the unit! wanted nearly the full price of a new unit!
put me off buying products where companies dont want they product resold!

I had APR on my last regular GTi and it was smashin in both stage 1 and when we did the stage 2 upgrade, 15000miles no bother at all, in fact it was so good it made me want more so ED30 it was

yeh, i had one on my ST and i did get it reset for free, but they did shaft me when they told me they wasnt changing there map like everyone else was at the time (for more power etc etc ), i sold the unit then a week later they changed the map !!, anyway not a biggie , if you consider if you have a permanent map like apr put on the car you dont have the option of removing it and getting cash back at all and theres is £600

A remap works well on a std GTI without a doubt.

Yes it is a double din screen and no it isn't too hard to change it over as long as you have the correct parts when you start.

good point. can anyone tell me what sort of power the bluefin gives a standard gti?
and what difference is it compared to a revo map or apr map?
is the revo map generic?
i just want to buy something that is plug and play and that cost a reasonable price!
e.g like BF cost 450 and gives x amount of power and y amount of torque
or go for revo coz it give more power and more torque etc....
help!

I've got the Custom Code intsalled in mine, very happy overall good increase in power and torque all over  the rev range and a smooth delivery. Very similar to the Revo trial I tried a few weeks before. Was saving up for the Revo and would have happily gone for it, (have used them before - mk4 Anni) but could not justify the extra money as CC have a 30% discount on at the moment, making it a bargain at £370. for around 50 bhp extra.

Had APR in my S3 too (they have a 20% offer on now and again) they were faultless too.

You can't go far wrong with any of the bigger tuners (Revo, APR, MTM, GIAC, CC) only three considerations IMHO:
1. How far do you want to travel?  I would pick a reputable Dealer who is reasonably near you. Others on here can help recommend good tuners in your area.
2. how much extra oomph do you want?
3. How much do you want to spend?

Have fun

Have a look here - www.custom-code.co.uk  You will have to ring them to find out if the 30% discount offer is still on.
