Title: ED 30 'Diesel Chunter' caused by gearbox?
Post by: speedynz on 02 April 2008, 00:06
Just got my Edition 30 back from the dealer to rectify a few warranty issues, one of them was to investigate the 'diesely chunter' on start-up. I don't mean the tappety idle sound but the noise that's like rattly pistons pinking when then the starter motor is released.

Well, I was told that VW had released a technical reprt concerning this and it was blamed on the gears rattling in their gearbox casing when the car was started without the clutch being engaged.

Anyone else heard of this?

nope not heard that one before :-)  , then again i did have a renault dealer telling me a car was fitted with special 17" alloys for the sporty model,  i was actually about 1 foot away from them and i could clearly see they were 18", as could he !!
