Title: Splitting split rims *Update* Any referb tips?
Post by: gti_technik on 01 April 2008, 20:08
Hi, i need to split some bbs rims (Rs version off a bora / mk4 gti i believe), they have multi star shaped bolts holding the inner piece in, these have more points than the current tools i have to remove the rim (if that makes sense  :undecided:).. can anyone suggest somewhere to get a socket etc to sort this?

cheers, Mark.

Halfords do 12-point (rather than the usual 6-point) star socket sets ;)

thats what i used for splitting mine

ps. iirc Motorist Discount Centre do them too and B&Q

you can use regular 12 point sockets for the bolts.

when you take them all out run a blade around the sealant before you take the lips off, its much easier to split them

I got a 12 point 8mm 3/8 drive socket from Halfords for mine works great..

usual rules apply really... I haven't done split rims myself but have have refurbed a few sets of alloys...

sanding bbs style rims is the real ball ache.... have fun!!!!
