Ive got a set of coilovers that I am going to fit to my '86 MK2 8v gti but I'm wondering what other parts if any are need to fit them or if there's parts that are worth changing while I'm swapping the suspension?
I've bought some new top mounts for the front but do I need anything else for the rear?
-
Maybe new suspension bushes is yours are looking a little worn pal?
-
you might as well change the rear top mounts too

I've just got some rear shock top mounts for mine for under £2 each from vw! well worth swapping

you could use it as a opportunity to go to town so to speak. Id start by pressure washing inner arches and underneith then covering every nut/bolt with degreaser followed by quick rinse and some WD40 or similar just to make life easeir.
Before removing old suspension mark up roughly where lower suspension connects to hub to give idea where to allign it to when you put new suspension on. once old suspension off...
- front top mounts - G60 ones if you can get hold of them
- track rod ends - tracking and camber will need doing after shocks fitted so might as well.
- ball joints
- anti roll bar drop links and inspect ARB clamps under car.
These will make a drastic difference to the cars handling!!!
you also may want to get calliper paint- again might as well do as many lil jobs as possable whilst suspension is off
Enjoy

agree with above if you have the £Â£Ã‚£ to do it.
As a minimum, I will be doing top mounts, and bushes when I put my coilovers next month... then an alignment check a few weeks later after letting them bed in for a little while.....
