Title: Has your golf been CLOCKED??? free ecu check for mark 4/5 golf
Post by: golfclocker on 01 April 2008, 14:08
Hi all.
all mark 4 and 5 golfs passats audi tts etc have a second mileage stored in the ECU, as im sure many of you know.
Many car dashfixers/correction experts have not known this until last year, and only changed the cluster via obd2 scocket. There now must be many VWs and audis driving about with incorrect mileage. (some stealers have problems pulling mileage out from ecus)
I will check any for Golfgti members FREE OF CHARGE... I have been verifying bmws for quite some time now..
You can bring your vehicle to me or i may go a a local meeting when there is one near me.

You can see my ad on this page in the ads by Google box or you can vist my website www.milesback.co.uk

Regards.

no. to be honest. i am saying that a lot of golfs have been done because its easy to do.....
the problem for you guys is that if you dont know the TRUE MILEAGE of your car then it will cause service and cam belt change problems.
All im saying is as a favour to fellow golf nuts, i would check free of charge for you.
Regards

Hey, whilst I appreciate you will claim this as a legitmate business I am not really happy to be seeing things encouraging mileage fraud. Even your username highlights that this is 'clocking'.

I pay per click and have this ad on most forums ic bmw/ crappy vauxhalls etc. but as i have just leased a new golf tdi
I have taken to ths forum, I like it here , lots going on.
Google make a s**t lots of cash i pay them about £800 per month which is search and this sort of ads. but it does bring in about 10/15
calls a day from that source, so its not too bad.
I also do a lot of work for main dealers for an example i did a s reg golf a couple of weeks ago for sidlow WV, as the car went in
for a new cluster and the tech had put the mileage in as kilometers not miles so it came up 72000 not 44800miles, as they only get one
chance to enter mileage, it was either call us or pay out for a new cluster unit... so its not all about clocking
Regards as always

That is true, also there is no law to say you even have to have a mileage display in your car.
i change my mileage every day...to check my box before i go to work .....
It just nice to know the real mileage of your vehicle. ie, 56000 on clock. but its on 87000, then .ping goes cambelt.........
happends every day.
Be good

I'd be interested to know if you asked to see any sort of verification from the dealer confirming the correct mileage as 44800?

Just a quick question, why would anyone want to change the milage on their car for reasons other than trying to sell it caliming its done less miles that it has? I just cant see any other reason for it.

Because if you have to replace the clocks then the new/recon ones will have a different mileage recorded on them.  The mileage you see displayed on the digital display is stored in the clocks, not the ECU.

My VR6 displays 62K, but I know the clocks were replaced at 76K.  I have documentation to back that up, it was like that when I bought it. Doesn't bother me...  But obviously I could claim its only done 62K when selling, but I'm too honest for that!

forget about changing the dash bits, lets just say they're fine.

So.. why else would anyone want it changing?

Well to change the mileage for any reason other that would be bad, however I can understand why people may want to check if their car had been clocked and if so put it back to what it should display.

Thats right turbobeast. you can never be too carefull with the golf because of the high build quality its not easy to tell.
we had a passat with 132000 on it and the interior was like new just a few small scuffs here and there.

Hi as your hot on clocking info. My dad bought a y reg mondeo of a local dealer its a 1.8 lx newer shape anyway I'm a bit dubious to the milage if is right, it has no old mots or s/h with it and on the speedo states 75k. The seat bolster isnt that worn but has a slight thining and the top of the wheel is shiny and has no grain on it could possibly take  a picture. Do you know if on fords they shine a lot quicker or should it not be worn on a 75k mondeo newer shape.

Do you know if these check can be done on them or if I can get history retrieved if it has any, do i just ring a dealer or hotline and pay a fee to get it not? Not really done thi ssort of checks before.

You can contact dvla for a list of all the last owners. do a hpi check via auto trader web site £3.
if you can remove cluster(ask if you need info)
look at the back you will see 6 test pins if there is any solder spatter on 2 of them, then it has mate.
if you find out that it has then contact the dealer and trading standings office.
good luck
