Ordered my lovely headlights today from that nice man on our forum, Stuart Tunstall.
I phoned my nice insurance company... and said
HEADLIGHTS... i wanna change my HEADLIGHTS
to which they replied.
"Rally lights? Spot lights???
NO HEADLIGHTS
Rally Lights??? Spots lights sir?
NO HEADLIGHTS
... 10mins it took me... TEN minutes... my headlights are now covered as SPOT LIGHTS/RALLY LIGHTS!!... Im guessing this'll cover my smoked fogs/indicators too ... ;D

Youve foned your insurance company to tell them you have changed your lights ???, no wonder they didnt have a catagotry for it. My insurance company arent arsed as long as its not performance parts
-
if its a modification then ya gotta tell em.
I dont want sum tosser in a Corsa crashing into me and my insurance being void cos i didnt declare a "none standard" part.
-
fair point
-
Or young girls in modified 1.2 Punto 8v's
>:(
-
Insurance companies are infuriating!
Did it cost you any extra?
-
?99.28 ::) cos I told em about my exhaust at the same time (bit overdue)
-
clucking bell! good old elephant.co.uk for me, tick a few boxes for mods and all covered. the insurance only covers making the car back to standard but legally all the mods are ok. fair enough i reckon for the excellent price they did me :)
-
*COUGH* I'm also with Elephant.
but headlights are not listed on their website as a mod... so they had to go down as Rally/Spot lights LOL
-
why? cant u just add a "note" to your policy? no increase then..
-
That's f**king extortion!
I'm with Admiral (same as Elephant) and with a bit of haggling you can usually get somewhere. Don't phone at the weekend or you'll get an Indian call centre (who have no understanding of UK cars, and no authority to do anything "not on their screen").
I managed to get em down by about ?100 on my premium, and they came down from ?200 extra to about ?50 extra for new wheels and lowered suspension. Threatening to leave always works. ;) Now paying ?590 fully comp (I'm 24 with 3yrs no claims). Not bad eh?
Rich.

Im 19, first policy, high insurance group (14) car, no NCB, not even 2yrs driving under my belt...
Thats why its high ... they think im gonna go spackery around town and crash through a shop window or summet
-
teehee @ black_gti... sucker
I declared a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE list of mods that took the best part of 10 mins over 3 separate phone calls and they never put it up ;D
-
do you think i should tell them about my short beesting, and my smoked side repeaters ;D

yeah im with them and thats what i got, i also got aome weird bonus accelerator as well. what if you mod with only standard parts? superchargers, 2litre blocks etc???
-
it will always change the premium as you are more of a risk, but if they cover your mods on having a 2 litre G60 in a 1.6 driver and you have it nicked the money you get back will be based on it being a 1.6 driver, nothing more
-
so about 400 quid ;D
i think elepahant are ok tho,
not gonna mod my car much anyway just suspension and wheels prob, for the moment anyway
-
Yeah, elephant (& admiral) are not bad for that - that's all I've done.
I reckon if you start modding big-time, they'll get expensive.
-
yeah but when i can afford to mod big time money wont be an issue. so im not gonna mod big time :( :'(
