Hi all.
just some advice if i may.
Sometimes but not all the time I have a strugle to get the car into 3rd gear. but if i wiggle the stick abit it will go in.
Now im thinking it might be the syncro in which case id need a new box.
but could it be the selector cable?
just wondering if anyone has heard of this?
Im not sure but if it was the cable surly i would strugle with reverse, 3rd and 5th?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have any gear stick play in neutral or in gear? Forward/backward movement or side to side play?

Nope none at all.

A second gear crunch is something infamous on mk2's due to the fact people do a rushed change ("racing start") from 1st to 2nd and fudge it up, the more it happens the more damage occurs. The start of the syncro wearing would be a notchy gear change, possible crunch when the gearbox oil isn't up to temp but when it is quite worn you would hear a bad screech/crunch. 3rd gears have been known to have this same problem too.
Check the plastic linkages for cracks, the relay shaft ball etc for correct location (maybe post a pic) then after you could try changing the gearbox oil. This will not cure the problem, but just mask it unfortunatley.
New box is pretty expensive so hope you find its something else.

I've got a kit that came with the car. Is this the bush that stops play in the lever?
the relay shaft ball etc for correct location (maybe post a pic)
Where would i find it? lol
oh and cheers for the help btw!!
