Anyone know where you can buy one ?? Dealers around here don't seem to have them on their system yet. Not seen one on ebay so far. Has anybody got their iPod connected upto the RCD 510 & does it work any better than RCD 300,500 ??
Thanks

I think you mean RNS 510, the touch screen sat nav. I got mine off ebay in September for £1000 and installed myself.
See:

If you go over to vwnavi.com theres loads of info there.
And no, the ipod works just the same withe the RNS 510, i.e. no tracks names etc, but then you have a 30GB hard disc to copy MP3s to anyway so you dont need the ipod.
-
Thanks for that . It was actually the RCD 510 (non sat nav) I was interested in. But I guess if the RNS 510 doesn't show track names etc. then then the RCD 510 wont either. I was hoping to upgrade, to improve iPod connectivity. Does the RNS 510 show artist/track names when you store music on hard drive ?
-
in that case you mean RCD 500.
and yes the RNS 510 does show track names, but not artwork.
-
How do you transfer your music to the hard drive on the 510 out of interest.

From what I understand is the Rcd 500 has been available for last couple of years, looks much like the RCD 300 that came standard on my GTI . What I am looking for is is the RCD 510 which has a touch screen & multi CD, looks the same as RNS 510 but without sat nav. I believe it is now standard on Tiguan.

That sounds interesting! I didn't know they did a model without the nav, that would be ideal for me as I can't stand sat nav, and I guess you might save a few quid over the RNS 510. keep us posted on your search flywalker.

Did a quick search for RCD 510 on google and loads of stuff for the Tiguan came up, so looks like your right there mate

ok well never heard of RCD 510!
with regards to transferring music, you can use SD card, or burn to DVD and transfer that way.

Its pretty easy to transfer music but you will find ocne u install maps etc on ur HD you have about 18gb's for music...still plenty but 30gb sounded much better!

Not really 10gb's for just maps...possibly other things such as firmware etc? Not to sure but i was abit suprised when i saw 18gb of free space.

Anyone know where I can get my mitts on one of those RCD 510's, and would it fit into my GTI as a replacement for the RCD300? It sounds a bit weak and I'd like to keep the car looking as OEM as possible, this looks like it would do the trick! I have the iPod dock armrest so I take it it would connect up as standard?
Appreciate any help
-
do you mean rns510 ?
-
Nope, the RCD 510 as fitted in the new Tiguan!
-
Was having a play with one last weekend. Just same as the Sat Nav but without it
The screen was pretty responsive and the graphics were good, it also sticks with the OEM look also. And it sounded well.
The mercedes GL that I was in this morning, the finger prints showed up something chronic.
Non on Flea-bay yet

Nice, I wants one!!!
I've tried eBay and a few other places, if I find any I'll post here. I'll give VW a try....

After using the VW Tiguan configurator it looks like this would only have an Aux in socket, rather than connect to the iPod via its cable to the head unit?
Quote from their website
" RCD 510 touchscreen radio/dash-mounted MP3 compatible 6 CD autochanger with 8 speakers and AUX-in socket for connection to external multimedia source (e.g. iPod and USB)"
In fact there is an armrest on their Tiguan Configurator but no iPod connection, nor mention of it anywhere else other than the Aux port.
I'm still trying to email VW technical, but cant find a valid email address for them. I'll try my local dealer and hope they may be able to help.
