I think the Bluefin is great... easy to set up and easily removeable. Takes longer than say GIAC to switch programs. Not often you switch back and forth anyways. Only criticism is i don't think they cater for stage 2 upgrades like filters and exhausts.
Judging by ur ex ST i doubt you'd be content with stock parts 182_blue  I have a carbonio intake and fitting a downpipe and cat to my existing cat back tmr... will see what it feels afterwards. Heard stories that i could lose power due to wrong fuel maps. So i may make a trip down to Manc to Awesome to get the APR map later.
Basically if you intend to mod ur car... i think will be better to get custom rolling road maps from the likes of APR. Just my opinion tho

yes still very driveable, to be honest you completely forget its installed (I've only put it back to standard twice in 10 months, once for service and once out of curiosity!), it drives just like the standard car at lower revs but when you want the power its there, very smooth with a similar power delivery to standard, just with bags more boost! I must admit I've just been out in mine in the glorious sunshine with bone dry roads and it has put me on a bit of a GTI high! So fast in the dry when you can get the power down fully!

hehe, well i have sort of promised myself im not going to go as mad as the ST, so a simple bluefin will suit me tbh (as long as theres no downsides), as imo the filters dont tend to add much anyway so i may stick with stock for power and just add bits like nav etc

bluefin just makes a good car brilliant, once you've savoured full throttle you'll never want to switch back to standard. torque is unbelievable compared to stock, buy one you wont regret it.

Interesting post on another thread :

Look at the post near the bottom by "Superchips"

- Bluefin reduced to £499 + 10% discount

- 330bhp using Tesco 99 on their manual Ed 30 test car

- All recent Bluefins reset the flash count to 0

its apparently what tells VW how many times the ecu has been flashed (or mapped in this case), but other say that you cant completely hide it from VW

will do mate, the old ST one used to take about 45mins on the first go then less after, but the ed30 is a different set up, and requires activating via pc apparently

superchips send you the handset, you plug it into the port under the steering wheel and download the standard map, takes about 20 mins. connect the bluefin to your pc after you have installed the supplied cd software, it sends your map to superchips. mine took 1hr to get back, they text or email to tell you its ready. plug the bluefin back into your pc and it downloads the uprated map. plug it into the port in your ed30 and 20 mins later you've got yourself a missile, get some sticky tyres- happy days  once you've tried it you wont go back(as the actress said to the bishop). pick up the phone and get it done.
Title: Re: Edition 30 owners with Bluefin ?
Post by: 182_blue on 01 April 2008, 21:45
yeh, wonder why they connect up to the pc now, the old map used to be stored on the handset ?, do they modify your current map and send it back, or just send you the stock uprated version back ?, wonder if they check for fault codes ?
Title: Re: Edition 30 owners with Bluefin ?
Post by: sunnylunn on 01 April 2008, 21:59
apparently they do check for fault codes and let you know. they have a look at your map, alter it and send it back to you. your original map is held on the handset. if you ever buy another vw group car you can re-use the bluefin, superchips will reset it foe £350 ish- cheap remap for the future. the hand set will also immobilise your car if you are going to leave it for a while, you cant start it even with the key, added bonus. a few people dont rate the bluefin, but i've found it to be brilliant. each to their own. a carbon fibre front vw badge has knocked loads of weight off as well which has improved performance no end. ( i blame red robin for that one, it was only £118 plus £28 import duty )but it saved me having to paint the original one for £5

one thing , man on phone said the old sock map is kept by superchips and not on the hanset, if so how do you return to stock, or do they just take a copy of it ?, also if they do remove your old map when you first connect the bluefin is the car rendered useless (without a map) untill you get the download, or was bloke on phone talking out his bum LOL
Title: Re: Edition 30 owners with Bluefin ?
Post by: sunnylunn on 01 April 2008, 22:09
talking out of his bum, the standard map is copied to the handset even when you have sent the map to superchips its still on the handset. when the uprated map is on your car you just plug handset in and it swaps map back to standard and vice versa. you can do it as many times as you like. ring superchips and speak to somebody in technical, they are really helpful. it really couldn't be any easier to use.

Hey guys,

Do the Bluefins work with Apple Macs or is it just pc’s... does it say on the software supplied if it’s MAC OSX???
Thanks... Hotrod

Post by: sunnylunn on 01 April 2008, 22:20
pc only, ive got a mac so had to use my brothers to sort it. :undecided: just to clarify, the bluefin copies the standard map to the hand set, you can still drive your car as normal once the map has been downloaded. it swaps maps with the updated one when you connect to car after you have received the uprated one back from superchips.

install took 20 minutes to download my stock map, i then connected it to the pc and it took Superchips about 15 mins to text me back to say map was ready, so i reconnected the handset to pc, downloaded new map (took about 5 mins), then went out to the car and installed map in car (took aprox 15 mins), and off you go :-)

as for comparing to the ST, i would say from initial feelings its as quick if not quicker, bottom end isnt so rapid (not alot in it thoguh) but when the turbo kicks in your off

i would say for anyone thinking about it to go for it, the drive is very good, still is very driveable and when you put your foot down things get a little hectic

How do you find it happy or not
Well what can I say, my bluefin came today and within an hour my ed30 dsg was singing with around 300 bhp.

The entire set up was really easy and I had no need to speak to the technicians, not yet anyway,....

I haven't really had chance to open her up yet although I can confirm the following;

Around town the car feels much smoother (not sure why though) and is happy to act as normal without any sign of the potential 300bhp under the bonnet, however on the dual carriage way, plant your foot and thank you very much, from anything above 2.5k revs, the car really flies, it almost seems like the car has an extra gear as in 3rd the acceleration is mind blowing, 4, 5, 6 and even in 6th you feel the car has so much pull it just doesn't seem to want to stop

I am hoping to do a bit of mileage over the next few days to be sure I've made the right choice, sure I have, just will take getting used to the diferent bite points as they are slightly different from before, for example, I used to use 4th to accelerate away on motorways, now it's happy to do this in 3rd!!!

One question I did have, if anyone can help me, many thanks, question is this, does the car learn the new mapping and maximise the performance over time, bottom line is, will it open up again after a fair few miles???

If in doubt, try it, you won't be disappointed!!!

yes the ECU does self-learn and will tweak a few things
