Knock sensor
Don't ask how much either you need one without a doubt!
-
resize that pic mate, it's a bit large
-
Definately a knock sensor...
-
i didnt actually know that, cool, does orientation matter with these, cos mines on the piss?
-
Stick the wirer vertical but i don't think its to critical, IT does need to be torqued to the correct level, 20 nm from memory.
-
Took me ages to find it in the pic!

hmm i didnt know that either, better get me wrench out, stick straight and torque him up (i'll check the haynes first tho ;) )..god engines have soo many things that need to be right!

try the breakers or ebay for one in mint condition i.e. no breaks on the wiring or its insulation
one from a passat will do, but the lead is shorter (makes no difference)
dealers want £50+ for them (i checked last month)
i just got one in mint condition off ebay for 99p

Aye, if its to tight it will be too sensetive and retard the timing, check the advance at 2500 revs, if it advances to +30 then its ok

i know a bit about timing but you talkin bout gettin a strobe on and reving it to 2500 and check ithat with the flywheel mark? cos i got a snap on timimg jobby from my mechanic, can i use this yeh?
oh and 30+? whats this mean?
-
oh and my knock sensor was pretty damn tight, torque it up now and the engines SOOO much smoother, crazy!

Done!
Cheers for advice, is that the reason it is running a bit lumpy about 3000-4000 revs?

it could well be, toh there could be so many reasons for this! timing, idle, co2, vac hoses, oil pressure blah blah blah...the list goes on!
-
you forgot the blue temp sender!

when it was running, the project ran like a bag of nails with the sender connected once warm. once disconnected it purred like a kitten.

does not have one as the advance/retard is vacumn operated
